Not to get back on the original post but...
After eight days, after having to go down Norwalk Blvd (N/S) or Florence Ave (E/W), maybe going to the 5 Fwy or the 605 Fwy, hauling a trailer with a worldwide known logo all over it, and the amount of hot rodders residing in SoCal and everyone having cameras...
    It's still missing!

Sadly it’s probably been stripped of all logo’s , contents and repurposed by now . That’s just my opinion. Several years ago at the end of the Motorcycle cannon ball run an enclosed trailer loaded with vintage motorcycles and parts was stolen out of a hotel parking lot in Washington state . A large reward was posted . The owner asked for just the motorcycles and parts to be returned no questions asked. Sadly nothing was recovered. I dislike thieves

  3. How much merch was in it? That could surface on various auction sites.

I kinda know why, but it’s been awhile since I was told.
If your trailer didn’t have amenities in it, it’s a utility trailer and the assumption is you can’t live in it.
Years back (since you mentioned semi trailers) the tractor and trailer were registered separately, but much different than now.
But when rules/laws changed my dads tractor went from around 200/500 a year to over 2k a year. This rig had bottom dumps, so pulled two trailers. I don’t recall the costs of the trailers but was similar to the tractor. Then with the changes, almost nothing on the trailers. I think CADMV lumped them in as one as well.
But who’d live in a bottom dump trailer? Wait, don’t answer that!!!!

I think it’s simple, the trucking industry has strong lobbyists that got a favorable law passed.

The California PTI was the only thing AH-node ever did when governor and I thank him since I have 2 cargo trailers.

Rest easy my friend, I believe Cousin Eddy changed his name and is now the governor of California. Look closely and you’ll see he still wears that stylish dickie.

They’ll get short shrift over there as Shige Suganuma resurrected Moon Eyes after Dean Moon’s wife passed away.

Any of that merchandise if it gets sold at all will end up on FB marketplace, Craigslist or at flea markets or swap meets or be sold at some back street shop. What is in the trailer is very seldom the target of the thief unless it is something easily sold or pawned.

My thought is still that the trailer didn't go far before it was inside a building getting and identity change. That may be a sloppy repaint with house paint and a roller or a total strip and paint to look like was always the way it rolled back out of that building. Or it could be a meth lab in the woods with the logo still on it.

Had lunch with Chico the other day in Yokohama and some of the merch has been recovered but not the trailer. There is a lead though that I cant comment on. Hopefully it pans out.

  16. You just need a travel trailer that is 16 ft or less measured from the very tip of the tongue to the very outward extremity of the farthest part sticking off the back of the trailer then you can get it PTI
I have restored probably 20 to 30 vintage trailers for some idiotic reason California registers all the trailers and properly as your trailer is probably registered as a commercial coach but there's nothing commercial about it.
If it's under 16 ft it can be registered as a "CMP" (camp) trailer.
And for the record it has nothing to do with bathrooms or anything like that. And as a fellow California resident that lives about 30 minutes from you in the Riverslime area I agree California registration is stupid overpriced... Especially on older vehicles, RVs and Travel Trailers that hardly ever get used and generally speaking don't destroy the roadway.
    End added rant

  17. So I just looked it up on the DMV website because the paperwork I have is old I didn't know if anything is changed anyways its still the same BS
Here is the official off the website as of about 1:00 a.m. on December 5th of 2023

Camp Trailer (CVC §242)—A vehicle designed to be used on a highway which is capable of human habitation for camping or recreational purposes and does not exceed 16 feet in overall length from the foremost point of the trailer hitch to the rear extremity of the trailer body or 96 inches in width. A tent trailer is a camp trailer. A camp trailer is not a trailer coach. Camp trailers are registered under the Permanent Trailer Identification (PTI) program, as explained in Chapter 14.

Fifth-Wheel Travel Trailer (CVC §324)—A vehicle designed for recreational purposes to carry persons or property on its own structure and constructed to be drawn by a motor vehicle by means of a kingpin connecting device.

A pickup with a kingpin connecting device for a fifth-wheel travel trailer must be registered as a commercial vehicle.

    • Trailer Coaches (CVC §635) (body type model CCH)—A vehicle, other than a motor vehicle, designed for human occupancy or human habitation for industrial, professional, or commercial purposes, for carrying persons and property on its own structure, and for being drawn by a motor vehicle. A trailer coach cannot exceed 8 1/2 feet (102 inches) in width or 40 feet (480 inches) in length.
    • Travel trailers and/or fifth-wheel travel trailers (CVC §§242 and 636) that exceed the maximum length and/or width requirements for a camp trailer are trailer coaches (body type model CCH) and cannot be registered under the PTI program.
