Yeah, they probably need a good dose of hallucinagens-kooler paint jobs guaranteed!:D
I'd like to see some pix of these horrible cars that warrant so much concern and attention-car accident thing, ya know?

there was some interesting stuff there, i think they just need to filter some of the cars that showed up. like i said be4 though, money is money to thse guys, if the promotors really cared,(which they don't becuase they sell mooneyes floor matts to anyone) they would do like paso and send a pic of the car before the show.

there were three older guys parked next to each other. one had a model A on deuce rails, the other was a deuce roadster that looked barn fresh, the other was a fenderless 34 , full hood, and also looked barn fresh. ...in my opinion three of the top cars on that parking lot saturday. i stood approx. 25 ft. away and watched as at least a hundred people walked right by those three cars without giving them a quick glance. why?
was it because they didn't have OCC/WCC iron cross shit all over them, or tribal flames or black primer with metal flake accents,a chain steering wheel, and skull stuff on the engine? probably!

that prooves my point all along....you have to have some sort of proper organizing and preparation before a show. pick a cut off year, pre register, promote real cars, etc, etc, etc.
you will still get a few $200.00 cars showing up but there will be less of them.

When I was a kid, we fixed cars UP.....now the kids fix em DOWN......but all of America, in general, is unfortunatly heading that way.

Several people made some very good points here.

As we see, trends are to some extent influenced by easily-accessible television and magazine exposure. (And many of us have learned just how hard it can be to find a new copy of The Rodder's Journal.)

I've thought of organizing an outdoor car show, and standing where the cars pull in so I could direct them to park in one of several areas, like "good, better, best". The result would be some great cars all in one area, and I'd stand to piss off some people by having them park somewhere else.

By restricting who comes in and who has to park outside, you're going to alienate yourself from people. Look at all the griping we've heard about the L.A. Roadsters' policy of not allowing unpainted cars inside the main area at their Fathers Day show.

As long as the Mooneyes Christmas Party has the theme of an open house, I would expect anything halfway resembling a rod or custom to be allowed to be a part of it. Isn't that how it works at Viva Las Vegas?

  8. The next time my club gets together I'm going to suggest that we mount a big ol' TURD on a piece of wood and award it to some of these "cars". Somebody has to tell them. And the Vipers aint scared, we LOVE a good ol' punch up. It's TRADITIONAL!

    Hey Axle! you were there?

  10. Me personally, i'm 50 and feel like 25. And this is my take on the "not so nice" cars. I'd rather see the young guys with these cars than a fucking Honda with a trash can exhaust pipe. ALSO, watching the fucked up prices on what was once OUR hobby, now gone to the rich and aimless because their precious stock market's in the shitter. It's nice to see you don't have to earn a living like a god dam supreme court judge to have fun with cars. So, fuckit. Bring out the rough cars instead of crushing them. Yeah, some of it's pretty rough. But it's like sex. None of it's bad, just some of it's better.

  11. Yeah, but how 'bout the patina on that fiberglass body. KILLER. Give the guy a little credit. He bought it NEW at a Goodguys show for big money with yellow gelcoat, and 18s and 20s. Look what he did. Even the metal hood sides to throw you off the scent. But, i agree he should leave the hood down and lose the 3rd brakelite. OUCH! Someone should post a pic of this so others can see what we're talking about. The patina even feels like rust. Killer job.

  12. PS- it "WAS" a party, not a car show i think. Mooneyes Xmas Party?

  13. I looked at the post earlier and that POS. fordor pisssed me off cuz you know 20 years ago that guy probly had a bright pink fat fender with boyd wheels and some sweet pastel graphics and I'll bet is was called $uper $weet $edan. idon't usually respond to these posts but it's getting bad when a mooneyes show is full of shitty cars.

Im glad i didn't look around. I had to sell t-shirts all day long by Barris's booth. Hearing about all of these pos's just makes me sick, and makes me want to finish my car even faster.

Harpoon I think you mean to say Rockasilly junkyard.

  17. Not me. I wish they'd go back to the fart can Hondas. Unless you mean the post about it being a party. In that case, maybe I didn't drink enough to see the appeal?

CD player playing Bluegrass guitar-Bryan Sutton Highly recommended!

I've yet to see street rodders venture into the world of extremely ridculous shit rods for the sake of being noticed. 20 years ago that person was hopin' for a new skateboard to replace the one made out of an old fence plank.

Here's my take. I'm making evey effort to go to the Round-UP in 2006 in my truck (I'll make it a point to finish it then). Drive to and from SoCal. If Brewsir did it then I want to (he's the man!). Thats how I envision a car show weekend.

without saying anything bad about anyone else's ride, all I can say is that I am actually proud of some of the "finish" work I have been putting into my car. There was some cars there that made me think I was going overboard by trying to hide the metal and body work.

I saw that "37" and though it was tits until I walked up and saw the the Ardun covers on top of what I can only guess was a LT1 or LS1. If running a late model motor makes more sense for you that's cool, but why try to hide it??? Reminded me of a guy I saw at a Good Guys show years ago: Duece w/ all the trimmings, Ford logos everywhere, even a hand fabricated "Ford" script plaque that was connected between the 2 exhaust pipes, only problem, a SBC

I agree with Groucho. I would rather be seen in a rusted out old american car than a new lowered Mr. Bolt-on accessories Honda. I am into saving the old american Iron that I so called love to drive. It felt so good to be driving on the freeway and see all of these young bucks going 80-90 and blowing by me but I look better when I get to were I am going. That is the difference. It is how ya look when ya get there, not how fast it took to get there!!!!!!!!!!!!! KNUX!

When sitting at the diner here on Main St., situated between like 6 bars in this college town, I've noticed some things.

There'll be a group of nice, attractive girls walking in a group, and with them, the token fat, ugly friend. The fat ugly friend is a real winner. In an effort to try to steal attention from the naturally attractive, she'll wear skimpy clothing and loads of makeup, causing the casual observer to recoil like they stared straight into a welding arc. Then you turn your head slightly and look at the rest of the group; they look like supermodels.

    see my point?

Even a beginner with some effort and a desire to build a finished, driver quality car looks like Gene Winfield compared to these fuckers. In 5 years when the rat fad is over with, there will be a plethora of unfinished projects to be had at bargain prices.

  25. Couldn't the owner just paint it to look like a nice, finished traditional sled, instead of trying to convince everyone it's made of metal? People ggoing out of their way to make a finished car look beat, when I'm tryin like hell to make my beat car look finished! There's no justice. :(

nah fuggit. Its almost time to switch to a different FAD anyhow. :D

What do you guys think will be the next big thing? The next "PUNK RAWK" trend????

I'm at a loss. I saw this hot rod thing coming for years.....but now that we're here....now what? :D I need to know so I can get in on it before everyone else!!!!

So, for those that drove out from Texas, was the Mooneyes show "ideal"?
