This is one of the coolest threads I've read in a long time! It's got alot of cool info and stories. I'm looking forward to the mooshine festival im Dawsonville this year. I have a 49 ford tanker with a 331 caddy in and a 4 spd. It was bought new and built by my Grandpa and great uncles. Its still got all of it original goodies including the dump for the 50 gal tank. I've been working on it slowly for 15 years and Its 99% finished. One cool thing about it is that I've been restoring in the same shop it was built and maintained in. They ran the car from 1949-1957 when it was replaced with a 57 210. As soon as I get back over to AL I'll take pics and share them with yall. I hope to see and meet some of yall in Dawsonville. There is also another moonshine theme show in Hiaw***ee Ga. Its a pretty big show also with a swapmeet. I'm not real sure on the date so I'll hold my tongue until I get the correct info and link to post. Its about an hour north of Dawsonville. Oldfart36, If you need or want any specific pics or info just let me know and I'll get it for you.
I got an old sedan that was a shine runner (do a search). Nothing fancy about it. The whole idea was not to stand out in a crowd (or a back road).
Great post-Junior started out young and no telling how many gallons he ran in the days. We will be headed to Dawsonville come october and take a look at some of the old tankers.
My grandfather had A 48' Mercury coupe that was a X- Shine car. When I get home tonight Im gonna look for the pics I have of it and post them.
OK I'll throw my old shine runner into the mix, or at least whats left of an old shine runner. Not real purdy these days and probably won't be real purdy when its done. but it is a real Tenessee hound dawg, at least that's how the story goes.
Hey man pretty is not the issue! Real cars and real reople are!!!! I think it's cool, and I'm glad you joined this great thread!!!!
Don't know if I posted it here but back in the '70s I used to cruise with a fella that run shine. He had a '57 Ford 2 door hardtop. It was red and white I think, I guess it could have been brown and white same color to me. Looked stock as a stovebolt. It had two sets of air shocks on the back for when he was loaded, the whole idea was not to look loaded, and a 427 under the hood. It sounded funny for a '57 but that was about it. I think that the locals all knew he was running shine but I also think that the way it worked was that they had to catch him loaded in order to make it stick and loaded with the shocks pumped up you just couldnt tell.
Cool thread guys, You might like to check out this site if you like cool clothes. They have a shirt ***led 'moon runner' - This design features a 1949 Ford Sheriffs Car in pursuit of a 1940 Ford Coupe through the back woods. Good quality 100% cotton black work shirt. www.skidmarkz.com.au I'm about to take delivery of a 41 Poncho hardtop from Tenn. Wonder what it's story is!!rodl
I thought about going with the Moonshine Runner concept on mine, but a bit new for it...so am going with a "Sorta Deliverance" look instead.. Cheers, Bob
41 ford i worked on. ex shine car. had plates welded in the trunk to make it totally flat. car was super solid. couldn't find any bondo. came with the original super thick rear spring. s****ped old clay mud from the frame when i was gettin ready to pull the motor out to get it freshened up. the guy sold the car shortly after. wish i had the doe to buy it
my old 36 chevy 2 dr standard car never run shine BUT where it came from, they made "templeton rye" rumor has it a local cemetary had the backside of a tomestone hollowed out and you went to the cemetary to pay your respects and got your bottle ? when i bought this car it had some weird over load springs and shocks plus the wierd rusted out rear floor compartment ? when i cut everything out we could not figure out why there was there a rusted out lower floor w/ a lid under the back seat ? looked like a storage area ??? later from some local folks they said that car was a delivery car for the brewer ? it had a 50s motor block in it and later trans -3 speed -looked kinda factory? maybe i should of restored it ? anyway when done guess i will have to get a license plate with "shine " or some thing related to that ?
yep pretty exe, but i guess when you live at the *** hole end of the world you get used to being screwed!! But y gotta admit it's a cool looking shirt! rodl
on the other end of the same topic, I picked this up at a yard sale a week or so ago.. 'thought it was too cool to just leave there
