I got a electronic distributor for my 59 Chrysler newyourker and upgrade to a 100 amp alternator ...I was told and found a diagram that said I needed a ecu so I got a 4 pin ecu and I am using a Ford voltage regulator because that's all the part store could get at the time with out a wait and was told it will work ...Also had to put in a resistor for the wire from.the ecu to the coil and one to the starter relay ... can any one help or know anything on this subject ??? I am not to good with finding stuff online and can't find a diagram that seems to be right for this .... the resistor burnt up after try it with the battery hooked up ... i have a friend that will hopefully come help.me figure this out

Thanks hope you guys have something that can help

The wire coming off the starter relay should give 12v to the coil while cranking (bypasses the ballast resistor) , make sure it's not grounded when cranking, this would pop the resistor.
On your ecu your blue wire should be your keyed 12v
the purple and brown wires are the pick up coil in the distributor
the red one is your ( - ) side of the coil
the ballast resistor gets hooked into the keyed 12v that powers the ecu on one side and goes to the (+) side of the coil on the other side of the resistor, the wire coming off the starter relay needs to be hot when the starter is cranked, this wire gets hooked to the (+) side of the coil.

The alternator has nothing to do with the ignition system other than the fact that it usually gets juiced up with the same wire that feeds the ignition ecu.

I'd also highly recommend the Chrysler type voltage reg. Bluestreak p/n VR125, Chrysler 5234625.

I agree with brad2v, best to use Mopar parts. Additionally, if wiring is suspect then Mopar also has a wiring harness that is designed for swappin/installin into pre-70 vehicles...is this what you have used or something else?

Yup, the harness for the ECU is P3690152AB, 'bout $26 here in Canada, so prolly $15 in the 'States

go to ebay, search for p3690152 and 3 vendors show.....

the difference between the 4 pin and 5 pin is the ballast.

The 4 pin is the better one to have, it will work with either the dual ballast or the single ballast. The 5 pin will only work with the dual ballast

Also make sure your ecu is grounded good to the body, sometimes the paint is thick on a new ecu and the mounting screws don't bite into the metal enough to give a good ground.

The first diagram doesn't show that the ecu needs to be grounded but second one does.
