I have a mid 70's 318 and 904 AT in my 52 Desoto Firedome and have hit a snag. I have put the engine as far back and as far up as possible in the engine bay but I still have no room for my PS pump. It hits the left frame rail. I'm using the stock PS steering box and stock suspension. I'm probably going to need to fab up some brackets to raise it up to clear everything. Is there any stock Mopar brackets that will put the pump higher in the engine bay? I went to the local pick-n-pull but couldn't find anything that helps. Has anyone else out there had this issue? If so, any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

hi curt can you post any pics of the pump and bracket ? i built a 69 dart 340 , the engine had no brackets at all , ther are a couple of different styles of p/s brackets and 2 different pumps (round banjo and the newer gm style pump) i used the newer pump and a combination of brackets and the pump hugged the motor pretty close , is the pump hitting forward or to the side ? there is a motor pic of the dart in my album , but its too high to see the pump , it was tight but worked. mopar210

how bout a 70s truck, 4WD with the pump mounted higher up or an 80s truck (HD 360 with dual airpumps) where the PS pump is also raised up higher?? You could trim them up where the "extra crap" (snowplow pump or air pump) was mounted for a cleaner look.

  4. Run one of them electric steering pumps, no clearance problems at all.

ALL of the V8 transplants into late 40's and early 50's mopars need to be offset at least an inch to clear and use a passenger side exhaust manifold to clear the power steering due to the narrow front end ,they only came with the L-head 6 from the factory. Hope this helps.

I had to shorten up the power steering pump bracket on my 318 (from a 70 model) that I put in my 48 Dodge. Trimed it and put new a new slot and mounting hole in it.

    41 C28,
That bracket and pump looks like the unit I have. My rear bracket bolts on the block very low though. I will need to bring it up higher to clear. It looks like you fabbed up an alternator bracket as well. l picked up a "generic" chrome one at a swap meet last week but it sits too close to the valve cover. I will probably bring it out with some simple spacers.

    Hey Gang,
Did a little research at the local pic-n-pull last week and found a couple of different versions of van brackets that sit the pump up pretty high for easy access through the tiny hood.Hope this helps anyone else in the same boat! Thanks for all the input!
