Were these made in Australia (Utes) as the article suggests? Interesting Mopar decided to skip it here. http://www.curbsidecl***ic.com/curb...ickup-do-all-caterpillars-become-****erflies/
Yes, Chrysler of Australia made utes for the home market. In fact, they made all kinds of products that were never available in the US, such as inline-6 Hemis. Here is a 1960 Chrysler Royal ute. This was still based on the US '55-56 Plymouth ch***is, but has styling details that mimic subsequent American Mopars (like the '59 Desoto-esque trim) and some details that were uniquely Australian (ute body style, stacked quad headlights, etc).
PM me your address and I'll send you some, I've got more than I want-don't want any really. Texas is a big place with plenty of room for them. BTW Chrysler Australia even made Valiant panel vans to get on the van craze of the late 70's early 80's. We even got Valiant Chargers -no relation to the US Chargers- from 71 thru to 82.
Rust protection on a rampage or any 80's mopar! Funny stuff, they rusted on the dealer lots here in Michigan.
Boy, I can really relate to this. I had a 1982 Rampage that I really liked until the windshield posts started to rust out (very badly, I am ashamed to say) the second year I owned it.
I had a '84 Rampage. Kept welding metal to keep it together. Painted it Sublime green and added '70's Challenger like stripes. It was a cool little pick-up that could handle corners well. Aussie Utes are too cool!
... me too ! The 265 Hemi Six had 280 hp, and 302 hp depending .... nice ! Where is Mad Max postal engine shipper when we need him ?
They must be very rare now, I still see the earlier pre 56 models and AP5 and later but have never come across this style of Mopar in 25+ years of attending car shows and events up and down the Aussie east coast. Really rust prone?
Yes, and there's one the same as that parked at the gas station down the road from me. Here you will find many pictures: https://www.google.com.au/search?so...BAU499AU499&q=Valiant+ute&tbm=isch&gws_rd=ssl
