I would think he probably owes rent as well. The owner of the property(landlord) could put a ***le 42 lien against it. Then he could sell it for back rent.
1- No, it is not near any rock quarry, San Rafael or otherwise. 2- HotRob, I was asking a hypothetical question. I have since stated (2x) that I did not have any intention whatsoever of making a "midnite parts run"- If "hypothetical" is too hard for you to comprehend, look it up. I simply asked what other HAMB'ers have done in a similar situation. To those that have offered helpful, legal ways to look into it, thank you. For those of you that admit you don't know me, and still intimated that I am a thief, I also wish to tell you a two-part word, and the last word is "you", as well.
hey man, no one likes being called something they are not. if you dont want to be called a thief or someone capable of being a thief, then you may want to consider how you worded your post. "Hey everyone, there is a 27t roadster body on a property near me. The story is, the owner skipped town. Who has any LEGAL ideas on how to go about collecting the body" No mention of midnight runs, no place for anyone to read into your post you could consider stealing the body. I know it was a "hyperthetical" question but who needs to hypothesize about something everyone knows is wrong? Danny
no one said you are a thief, just saying it sounded like you were considering it. just go through proper channels if you can get a phone number of original property owner and maybe you'll get a good deal. good luck!
Yeah dude, no one was calling you a thief. However, if you were not considering stealing this body, then why does your ***le say "Moral question for the HAMBer's?" Theft is the only scenario in your proposed options that have anything to do with morals. Everything else is a legal avenue, which any intuitive person could conclude is THE moral question you were asking. So, if theft of the body is not the moral question you were asking, which one is?
I am glad to hear that! I can ***ure you that my comprehension is just fine. As is my ability to read between the lines. This just appeared to be a post asking for the o.k. to be shady. You say thats not the case, then cool. Go search for the owner. HotRob
Update- I met with the owner today. The body is solid, but he wants too much money for it. At one time, the Posie's spring, and the Super Bell axle and disc brakes, and Currie rear end, stainless 4-bar front and rear, would have been reral nice. Unfortunately, it has been siotting unprotected, and it's just a little too rusty and forlorn considering what he was asking. I tried to purchase just the body, as that was all I was really inetested in, but he wants to sell the whole enchilada.
A cheap body goes for $1500 these days. Saw one at Carlisle that was worse than that for $3500. Offer the guy $1500 and go from there. Have the cash in hand! Clark
Your pictures are sized so small that I cannot make out anything on the ch***is. Is their a clear ***le with it ? If the parts are good and usable / saleable .... it's worth that price !
If I had the technical ability to make the photos larger, I would, sorry. There was a lot of good stuff on it, that now, due to it sitting outside for over 10 years in a place that rains 80+ inches a year, and no more than 2 miles from the Ocean, has pretty much turned to ****. The body has had patch panels, looks like they were done right, as does most of the car, once upon a time... the '39 Coupe with the jag IRS has a Ford 302 and top loader 4 speed in it, but, again, there is now a lot of rust repair needed, so much so that it may not be worth it anymore.
If you really wanted to steal it you should not have posted anything anywhere, and stole it already, changed the vins, and build your rod.
What a shame. That coulda been a nice rod. It still could with a bunch of media blasting, but like you say, not for $2,500.
Yeah, G****juice1998, I agree. it's not too far gone yet, but by next spring, after our usual winter rains (between 75 and 100 inches of rain, yes, that is not a joke or an exaggeration) it will be. I am very tempted to wait him out for a few days, and show up with a truck, trailer, and (12)- 100 dollar bills. He says he has the windshield stanchions and lower frame, and some other parts, as well.... Hell, the media blast bill alone would probably kill me...Again, I am not the biggest fan that tube frame ever had, and if I could get those Stainless 4-bar setups apart without galling the threads, I could either stick them on an "A" frame, or use them as trade bait...I wouldn't mind using the Super Bell axle over again, but I think that Posie's spring might be a goner... and I have no clue what the discs are from, he said it was a Heidt's front end, or TCI, but I have my doubts...
