Ok, so you know about the radiused rear wheel wells (to match the front), well here's what will go along with it. '64 Rivi bumperettes and license frame and '58 Vette tail lights. Mike (kustombuilder) will be doing the work, hopefully starting this month. We were able to work a trade for some junk....ah, I mean, really valuable stuff I have. He gave me the idea for the Rivi rear treatment. Would like to hear your comments and yes, we will be lowering the rear wheel well radius a little more than the front, thanks.
Donzie, there is a similar car pictured on page 124 of the Andy Southard book,Custom Cars of the 50's. It's an Olds but they are similar. Billy
The purple one? Yes, it has radiused wheel wells but I wanted something a little more flowing. I wish there were more photos of it. It says it appeared on the cover of Custom Rodder, Oct. '58. Anyone have that one?
Great ideas Donnie. You gonna be cruisin with it next summer? My ragtop shoebox will be a little cooler by then too.
But will the taillights ever reach true celebrity status like those******IN lights on the "Terrific Tub"(tm)????? ...the ideas look great Don!!
Rich, YES, I will be crusing with it next summer come hell or high water. Hatch, yeah those t'lights on the tub will probably go down in history. It's funny, that everywhere I've gone this summer people recognize the car from the HAMB. I know the Vette lights aren't an "original" idea except we're not going to use the chrome bezels. The lenses will lay right on the fenders. The key word for this car will be "Smooth".
SMOOOOOOTH Operator.... Damn you, Donzie...now you got that song stuck in my head! (I like what you're doing to that old Chev, though!)
Thanks for the photos Ron. Still a little different that what I'm doing but cool. Anyone know if there is a low back swivel bucket seat? Or, how could I make a bucket swivel? I have a couple of '66 Mustang seats. Also, I need the rear seat (wrap around) from a T-Bird. I don't know what year had that. Are we getting the idea here? Here's what Mai-ki-ki worked up for me. This is pretty much on the mark. Still unsure about the side pipes.
Use the bases from a mid 70s set of Monte Carlo swivel buckets and mount some low back Camaro or Mustang seats on 'em. (Those swivel buckets came in other GM cars, such as Cutlasses, too)
if you do the riv bumper thing, you will likely want to look into getting two rear bumpers, to cut off the "top" part of each bumperette, one top right and one top left welded together, will make one bumperette, i think if you just try to cut out one complete bumperette, there will be more work to bring the bottom into shape. know what i mean? i was doing my 63 riv rear this way.
Ray, Mike told me that's what he'd be doing. Sounded like he knew what he was talking about...you confirmed it.
The rear-treatment both sounds like a good idea and looks good in the rendering. Im not sure on the sideview, though. I think its a combination of the new wheelarches, stance and maybe also wheels that doesnt quite work together imho. If its goeing to sit that low and even and running lakes, I think it would look better with stock rear wheelarches (is it possible to see the same rendering, but with stock arches?). If you're going to change the arches, -I think it would look better without the pipes and on a slight rake. The Olds in Rons pics has a better stance (could sit a tad lower up front, though). Just some feedback.

Maybe this is the look you want? Ray Goulart did build a real good looking 50 Olds, a former cvt. that he turned into a ht. Indeed a very well designed custom, and one of my favorites. This is a photo from 1964, from Andy Southards collection. The car have been featured in several magazines, the latest I think, was about 14 years ago in the new-born R&C.
Donzie, I'd hafe to say lose the side pipes...unless they tiny thin ones they will probably just ruin the lines a little bit. My 2c. the rest is sweet! MAIKI
I've always loved the ray goulart car...I'm not sure about what to do with the wheelwells...my vote is leave em alone and add the skirts....or do something sorta like this.
Donzie, -i meant a little more lowered in the front than in the rear, just like both the Olds'es in this thread seams to be. Rake doesnt work well with skirts or lakespipes, though.. Go with chromies, radiused arches in the back and twin pipes or scavengers in the back.. Thats a killer pic, Per.
Personally, I would leave the wheelwells and have it taildraggin'...kinda like before I guess But hey, that's just my opinion. And really, any old car is still a sweet car I love the rear idea.
Donzie- I like the rear treatment with the tailights and bumpers...killer ideas! I cant wait to see it done holmes.. Dirty
Grumpy, got any pics? Is that what year I need, '63? 40StudeDude clued me in that I need to find a pair of swivel seats and remove the headrests. Ok, so who's got a 'Bird seat they want to part with?
Donnie, Do you know anybody goin to Hershey this weekend? I'll bet you could pick up a pair there. There is a post about Hershey, put a note on there.
