just bought a 354 hemi that came with a single duece manifold. Are the heads the same between all hemis, duece, single four barrel and two fours or manifold specific. I know the 409 chevrolets were. Im new to the hemi side , any help would be great Thanks Rick
A 354 with a 2 bl is a truck or ind engine. The thing to check is the crossover under the carb. If it is square, any Chr intake will work. If it is tall & narrow you have to either weld up the top of it, use a block off plate, or buy an intake from Hot Heads that is desgned to cover that problem. Is it a wet intake with solid front heads on the engine?
Pictures, block ID or casting numbers would be helpful. As George notes, you might have a truck engine, or maybe it is not a 354, or perhaps its a 354 with a Saratoga (poly) intake...How well do you know you Hemi engines?? .
Check out Hot Heads, too. They have a good tech section as well as offering good parts: http://www.hothemiheads.com/
Hey man! Did you check the Hemi Index that I mentioned in your other thread? Did you see anything? There is TONS of info on hemi heads here. Just in case, here's the link to the Index: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=118764 Head thread... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=118704&highlight=hemi+tech Not avoiding your question, just trying to get people to use the existing threads so we can add NEW knowledge if it doesn't exist. In the mean time, the answer is no. They are not all the same. 331 and 354's were similar, 392's will require some manifold adaptation when used on a "low deck" block (also covered in existing threads), etc. '55 had some changes, gaskets often varried, etc. Grab a cup of Joe, get comfy, and start readin'. Lots of GREAT information here!
