I am in the process of updating the drivetrain in my 1931 Model A coupe. I have a rear-end from a 1993 S10 Blazer 2x4 ready for the swap. The original rear perches are 49 1/4 inches apart. I will not have that much space with the S10 rear (maybe 44 to 45 inches). Can I, should I, have the original buggy spring narrowed? Can I use a spring from another year to fit and achieve the correct ride hight? Does some one sell a narrowed buggy spring for this application? Thank you for the responses earlier today. I just do not want to fix a $100 problem with a $300 solution. I am leaning toward using a swap meet spring from another year. Does anyone know which year might work? All suggestions are welcome. Thank you. <!-- / message --><!-- sig -->
There should be several spring shops in the DFW area that can shorten the main leaf and roll new eyes on it. I would talk to one or more of them and see if they want the perches mounted on the axle first to ensure a perfect fit. Check with these http://www.fwchampionspring.com/ http://www.twspring.com/ http://www.buckswheel.com/tester.htm Buck wheel may only do big trucks though.
Speedway catalog has spec for spring and perch position. no cost. find a spring shop - trailer - repair - black smith. A friend of mine had same problem with his A main leaf . he tryed eaton. did not work out.
I had the same problem, wanted to run the buggy spring only narrower. Well, it didn't work out after having a new main leaf made and it not being done well ended up with coilovers. Not telling you what to do but for me it was a waste of money. Where is Keller? You can have a look at this one if you want.
thank you for the posts. I fixed the problem by buying a 1968 8 inch rear end at the dfw swap meet today. Anyone want to buy a very nice S10 rear end???
