Projects more progress from today,,,shoebox sectioning continues,, (door, fender)

    im still wondering what you're going to do with the rear wheel wells?!? im scared and excited at the same time. im sure you'll make a wise decision...name the car..ORGASMIC

    im gonna try to graft in 59 chevy wheel openings,,i love the way they look,,but not sure if i will have enough room to change a tire,,have to check it more,,,,,,

    anyone feel like photoshopping some on?

    i think i have the back end figured out,,,its gonna be pretty wild,,,stay tuned....................

    Chip Foose on Overhaulin, Yeah I know everybody heres favorite show...........Anyway he addressed the same problem of being able to get wheels off a car with a low wheel opening by converting hub to accept screw in lug bolts like on a Mercedes vs the US style nut on bolt style. It allows the wheel to slide on without having to go over the studs. Seemed like slick idea. Ever try changing a tire on a Pro Street 55 Chevy?

    You can learn something from anybody...next week I am watching American Chopper.

    My '56 Plymouth rearend has the lug bolts instead of studs and nuts on it too. I'm not sure how long Plymouth used that setup but perhaps there is a Mopar 8 3/4" rear that would swap in with the lug bolts, might be easier than having rear axles or drums drilled for lug bolts. Just a thought.

    Car looks great!

    When you cut the doors down, was it hard to peel up the edges of the door skins on the side where your inner sections slid up? I just get the feeling like they'd want to crack or break. Maybe I'm just used to working with rusty Wisconsin doors where the edges get thin.

    Hey,

    Speakin' of 'sick scoops' how 'bout one each over the front fender
    tops, jus' back on the headlamp door or frenched headlamp door?
    I think that one or two of the Clark Kaiser Shoeboxes had some
    of these featured. All of the Clark Kaiser cars had very interesting
    touches that stopped jus' short of weird.

    not too bad,,,there were a couple of spot welds to drill out,,then i just kinda peeled them back using a sharp scraper type tool and a brass hammer (light taps)..worked great,,a friend of mine has a tool to do the job,,but thought i'd try the "old fashioned" way first..haha,,,,,for the bottom, i just ground through the folded over seam until it became detached from the bottom of the door, since i wasnt gonna be refolding that part ,,just trimming my 2" and refolding..

    there will some SUBTLE scoopage (is that a word?..it is now,,,hah)...

    not like scoopy doo,,,(joe bailon on crack),,,,

    this build was actually partly inspired by a bailon car,,(but his wasnt chopped and sectioned)...

    My '57 Plymouth wagon has a (early) 8 3/4 rear and uses bolts to secure the rear wheels. I've had several other '50s Mopars and they all used studs and nuts. :confused: The wagon was an L.A.-built car, so start looking around soCal junkyards. ;) :D

    I just love that car man...

    looks great, makes me wanna work on mine some more but have to many other things to take care of first.

    when i sectioned the doors on my shoebox i ground the whole bottom edge off of it so it would come apart easier, then re hammered the edge back over the same way.

    Nice - That trim really brings it all together and makes the car look longer and lower too.

    I don't think I ever saw a sectioned shoebox I really liked - until this car.

    Looking forward to the next installment...

    Was always a fan of Valley Customs work, always thought they got the proportions right. I would say you nailed it as well. Great looking custom.
