man, after the last few days, this thing is starting to look like something. my last update, i had drilled my bones and axle, and got that stuff mounted on the frame. since then, i have built my motor and trans mounts. i'm not channeling my truck, so i wanted to raise my engine so the top of the carbs is relatively inline with the top of the cowl and grille. i brought it up two inches. i still have to cut and drill some gussets from the outside of the tubing to the frame, kinda like "outriggers", but they will mainly be for looks. i've also been slowly removing paint, and smoothing out the cast marks and "chicken skin" from my block. we next set the cab back onto the frame so i could trim the firewall so it all sets down were it needs to be. it's not totally down al the way but it's close enough for now. it's gonna have more foot space than i figured, and of course it's gonna get a hard chop. ( feel free to chop away photoshoppers!) i've got to reverse the front spring to get the nose down a bit, but overall, i'm really liking the look this thing is taking. ...and yes, it will have a "bed" in this shot, you can see the 56 olds dash trimmed to fit. as for paint, i'm thinking a silver 'flake frame, and a silver cab with an orange candy clear. mabye a white "filled top" painted on the roof, i dunno and of course all paint colors may be changed without notice at any time! well, that's all for now. matt
glad to see someone is making some progress> I havent done anything to mine in a few months. I got side tracked.
well, my wife went out of town for a week, so without all the honey do's, it easy to get things done. matt
that's gonna be a bad looking ride........ ? for ya.....that front engine support....i know they made those in after market......i think hurst made some......i have one but i keep hearing that they had to be used on the early 265 or 283's.......what block is that?
283 from a 1957 nomad. i have an old hurst mount, but this ones from speedway. i still need to drill some speed holes in it.
Alright.....so, I ***ume, that you cannot put one of these on a 350 style block..... ....I really like the looks of these old engine supports and would like to use one in my next project with an SBC
i think so...my pops 54 stude has a gm goodwrench crate engine in it with a hurst cradle. it's a pre center bolt valve cover 350.
Hello I did a fast and dirty chop of it in paint. I don't know how much i chopped it, but it should be around 6 in which probably is too much anyway. What make and size wheels are you using front and rear? Do you have more pics of the rear tires in different angles? I want to know if the 10 in wide Hurst slicks look as wide as the Radirs. I don't really like that wide look. Thanks, Magnus
cool!thanks! that's exactly how much i'm gonna chop it! the hurst slicks i have are 16x10.00 on an 8.75 wide rim. they're pretty wide, but thats what i wanted. i'll get a better shot of them and pm it to ya. matt
Seeing your truck in person made my mind up about building a truck. It already has a great personailty to it. Thanks for the hospitality. Next time I will come alone and lend a hand if you need it.
I love the blue color scheme of the engine and the front tires! You really should paint those slicks to match ;-)
i wouldn't do a thing with that suspension! That slight nose-high look is *****in' on that truck! Although it's your car, you do what you want. Sounds like some pretty different usage of colors and where you're putting them, should be cool...
man i hope you don't think i'm leaving the motor blue! it will actually be a cream color with a cream firewall. orange with a blue motor...yeesh!
Trunks looking Good! So Matt, how did you hook up with Richard? I see your PU is in his shop. Does Mike, Mike, and Butch still drop by on Fridays?
looks good man......now I cant wait to have my 31 A in my garage to start building it also.....thanks for sharing.....
well, i took your advice and went over and introduced myself. i already had met Kern and Riley at my shop. after meeting richard, we just kinda hit it off. he designed the frame with my input, but i've had to keep the screws to him! i bugged him so much, he gave me a key to the shop! anyway, yeah, everyone still comes by on friday afternoon. his little rpu is almost road ready, and when we're finished with mine, i'm gonna get on his *** about finishing the convertible. i told him you had mentioned on here about needing to come by, he said to bring your *** on! matt
a couple more photos. i got this in today and just had to try it on. i'm amazed how much it changed the "feel" of the car.
I love the 4X2 set-up. I have a question though; I want to run the frog mouth scoops on my 3X2's but how to you attach them to the carbs and what about air filters? Thanks, DeuceDog
