Been an interesting 4 weeks, and now that I'm working with pic scanners, thought I'd start with a pic of my truck from when I bought it in 'O1... my friends begged me to at least get the hood 'n front fenders to a solid color. Which we later Krylon'ed grey. Didn't stand up much to the Humboldt Bay air.
This was right before Christmas, finding out my air compressor wasn't cuttin' it... so I ended up rubbin' out the etching primer last month (thankfully the whole truck wasn't covered, but even half the truck took too long).
So we got ready for another try... sorry for the bad resolution, I didn't convert the pic well from one program to another. That's Luke, my gf's son, helpful as always.
I don't mean to take up so much space... I'm having trouble cropping out the surrounding white. PictureIt bites sometimes. Sorry again.
Hopefully this crop worked out better, stuff from the same day. Had a hard time working out the finesse of the airgun/air comp pressure, went through the etching WAY too quickly. That really hit the wallet, actually. Happy to have it working out, at least, after a few misses.
I'd initially primered the front hood and front of the truck last April, but gave in, rubbed it out to replace it. Mostly didn't want to effect all the filler work done on it.
Ran out of etching before it was 100% covered (4:30 on a Sunday, dontcha love it?), a few areas are on the bald side, to be redone. For the most part it's all covered with self etching now.
FINALLY got it in filler primer, nice to see it one color again... Still have some touch up to do on the bondo her and there, but at lest it's all covered, for now.
This is pretty much how it looks now, as I'm getting the truck bed box and rear fenders prepped in the lil' garage (where I wish the rest of the truck could be). More of an update soon...
might have missed it... but was the phantom sander ever found out?? lookin good all in hi-fill..now the fun starts! get the longboards out and sandsandsand!
LOL, who could forget the Phantom Helper? heh heh Even though there's been no sign of him/her, I still wonder. I wondered if it was Luke for awhile (the teen whom you see in one of the pics), but turned out not. He's quite a trickster, as it is. Actually- I just thought of a candidate I know in the neighborhood whom I haven't asked yet... Yeah, that hi-fill works great, and there's more to come. For now I'm getting the second 1/2 of it squared away in the garage. Today I worked the Makita grinder to clean up the bed box, tons of old rubber and miscellaneous buildup where the fenders usually cover. While I'm thinking of it- are fender bolts on a '55-'60 usually welded in, or can you pull them out? I bought a new set of bolts, but can figure out how to remove the old ones, they look welded in. Anyone have some experience with this?
