    hey it's Monday!

    and here's part six of my modified;

today I hung the front end, and here's how..

I borrowed an idea I saw here on the HAMB and altered it just a little,

I made some brackets that weld to the wish bone tubes just behind the forward weld at the front yoke. this will increase the wheelbase by a few inches when I use the stock front cross member.

I should be able to maintain three or four inches of suspension travel and still keep the front horns, I prefer that look over the bobbed look.

    ok.

I made another plywood tempate for a pattern of the brackets, transfered the layout to some more 1/2" plate and cut and ground both brackets

Yeah... I'm the last guy to be handing those out. I'm a hack.

Great work... I love the brackets you made.

    raven61,

I am embar***ed to say the spring is a mono leaf (street rod stuff!) [IMG]

I may swap it out for a real spring when one turns up [IMG]

the front axle and wish bones are '36, and the brakes are '40

That's a good looking bracket for the bone, can you
rosette it in so it doesn't look like it is attached
like cole did on those exhaust brackets.

This one is getting the S2D motor right?

Great looking brackets. 67ImpWagon was telling KustomsNRockets and I about that style of bracket that was on hear earlier. I don't think the previous ones went entirely around the bones like yours do. It really looks stronger than drilling through the bones that way.

How did you cut those "br*** knuckles" brackets that you made? Two holes with a hole saw on the inside or something?

Hey! Did I just invent a stylistic thing? You could make those look like br*** knuckles holding your spring up. That would be rat roderiffic!

thanks Ryan, I'm just a hack too, I am blown away by some of the real craftsmanship I see here on the HAMB!

    flt-blk,
I know what your saying that would look smooth, but I'm not sure if it's my style?

yes this will get the Stude 259 with the 2x2 on top and the 3spd OD behind

may even use a collumn shift??

That's the best way to put the spring behind the axle I've ever seen. No compromized strength of the wishbone using your method. Well done.

Paul, I to remember when this mounting system was posted on the HAMB some time ago. I thought at that time the bracket would be better designed if it went the full way around the bone. Now seeing your effort I'm convinced that this is the way to go. A good looking setup and its got that well thought out look to it.
It's going to be interesting to see how the wishbones hold up in this configuration, they definitely weren't designed to take this kind of stress and load. There have been so many who have utilized this method of spring mounting I'm sure we will get first hand feedback if there is any kind of failure.

Nice modification. I did mine that way last winter and posted it. I like how you went all the way around. Mine went partaily around.

  27. I'm a bit critical of most spring perch on the bones setups.

Looks to me like what you've set up here will work well and more importantly, be safe.

I like the full cir***ference bracket.
The mounting location looks like it picks up part of the cast spring perch where it runs back into the wishbone.
Comparing that with the original curved spring mount, I'd say there is more strength there than there was with the stock curved spring mount.
I don't think the bones proper will be flexing because the bracket is so far forward that the bones can do what they're supposed to do.

Nice work - more importantly, well thought out.
