Hi, I tried starting up my chevy ii again. Before this I discovered my timing was off. I was able to fix that and now I don't know what's wrong. I'm thinking it's the air and fuel mixture Because I never touched the dial screws. Also when the car starts smoke comes out of the carburetor. I have a video I added but this video does not show the somke.
Details? What did you start with? Was it running? Why was the timing off? You're sure it's right now, or at least close enough? Why are you thinking air/fuel mixture? Sent from my iPad using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Then that's not it. Smoke or Fuel ? Is there a hiss when this happens ? Why do you say timing ? Talk more about distributor as in anything you've done in and around this area.
It is smoke. As for the distributor I got a new cap and rotor the only thing I know I didn't do was set points.
Then as you suspect, the likely issue is timing. This will sound dumb, do you know how to find out how it's out of time ? You spoke of a head rebuilt as in one head only. Do you have an in-line 6 in your Nova ? Another thing just registered that you mentioned, "rebuilt head". How did you adjust your valve's. This may explain the smoke coming from the carb and why it doesn't want to run.
