Hello, just figured out how to use my scanner so I thought I'd share some of these. I was around 18 and working on a Saturday afternoon at Augies Gulf in Danvers, MA when some guy in a blown Tbucket pulled in (nickname Cousin IT") and saw my model A. He said a bunch of guys are meetin up at Sears in Saugus on Sunday morning. This was 1968-69. The Pics are taken on Sunday and we drove up to a Seafood takeout in Gloucester, Mass. The line of cars is along route 128 by the old Kings Grant in Danvers. The Orange Ford T touring car belonged to a guy named Ritchie Willet I think. The brownish copper Roadster was owned by a guy in Malden or Melrose and I think he's the guy in the Sunglasses. It was my first meet with other Hotrodders at the time. My car is the Red Ford Sport Coupe that was painted by "Kelsey Martin" back in the 60's. I bought it off a guy named Dick Stewart in Ipswich and when Kelsey saw me in it one day and stopped me and demanded to know where I got the Car. I told him and he was pissed and said the guy was supposed to sell it to him. He told me to head over to Beckford Street?? in Beverly and stop at his garage. When I showed up there were all these bikers hangin around and Kelsey was working on The Motorcycle tail section on his Chopper with the 8track player in the tank. Got a picture of it somewhere that I'll dig out and post. Anyway that's how I met Kelsey. Hope you enjoy some of these and maybe some of you own the cars.
Thanks for sharing your great pictures here! A little before my time but I've heard all those names and their cars. This must be the Norm Wallace roadster.
Thanks for the east coast pics !!! 327-365hp... I was thinking the same thing when I saw that pic with the black 5-window in it. Sure looks like it to me. Cool looking Willys too !!
This picture was taken at Bob's Clam Shack in East Gloucester. Don't know how these cars came into town and I missed them ! Any idea what year this was ?
I missed it...Thanks. I was still in high school. There were only a couple of Hot Rods in our area back than. Unfortunately, the factory" muscle cars" had pretty much taken over in Gloucester/Rockport.
Great pictures and history. Thanks ! Here it is back than And here is is back in Kelseys basement about 10 years ago(has since sold it)
Great pics of very cool cars! Thanks for posting them. I love that roadster in pic 3 ...maybe the Norm Wallace roadster as 327 posted above.
Baron: That was taken in either late September or early Ocober 1969.I remember because I was riding in my cousin Dick(Manley's) roadster;the old Norm Wallace car he had just bought from a friend of Mark Rogers. It was kind of chilly that day and the guys with no tops were really cold. I remember because he bought the car on September 14,1969 which was not only his birthday but the day his dad passed away from a massive heart attack. Bentley SS I must have met you at one time as I grew up in Saugus and knew quite a few people in the Peabody-Danvers area.Cousin IT (his first name was Peter and he came from Medford I beleive)had a glass T roadster painted green Metalflake and had a Tri-Power Pontiac motor in it. If I recall correctly(and it may have been a different Gloucester run)he was giving Dan Puccio a hard time wanting to race his car.Dan had a Model A roadster pickup styled like a T bucket with a monster 483 cu. in. Hemi in it.We were parked along the boulevard near the fisherman statue and Dan finally got pissed and challenged Peter to a go for the pinks.Peter backed off then and Dan fired the car and pulled a horrendous burnout right down the boulevard actually lifting the front wheels a bit.SCARY! Needless to say that signaled our time to depart before the law came. As I recall that cruise went down Route 127 along the shoreline and then on 133 into Gloucester.Nice ride even today. Thanks for posting the pics;they bring back some good memories.
see that's what i love about the HAMB.. you can always find a blast from the past! thanks for sharing
WOW! I dig the channeled roadster. Funny thing is, I have an internet pic saved at home of a knockout channelled model 40 coupe with a chopped duece grill shell, pretty sure its got the same Sears in the background. I will take a look at it when I get home, if its the same building, I'll add the pic to this thread.
That's from Safariknut's thread...http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=150560 A 34 Ford 5-window coupe originally built by Don Hiller of Salem Mass.Chopped, channeled,Deuce grille shell and custom 3-piece hood with a 49(round exhaust port)Olds engine. This pic taken in August of 1969.
Going thru some photo packs and came across a few more from 1969-1970...Boston Area Roadster Sunday morning meet at SEARS in Saugus. Some of the pics are from the Auto Show in Boston put on by a guy named Joe Kaiser , I believe. We brought our cars into the exhibition hall in Boston and other car guys came around and told us to put sheets or blankets to cover our cars up unless Mr. Kaiser paid us $25.00. That was Thursday night pre-opening. He paid the next day. Victory for the little guys. In the photo of the cars stopped alongside Rt. 128N in Danvers, the Red Ford with the White soft top (1930 Cabriolet) is mine. Enjoy.
