It doesn't have to be a ripsnortin' "hot rod" in General Discussion.

I just got a late '31 coupe back on the road that had been wrecked in 1998. The only thing I would add is DO drop the pan and clean out the sludge. Most of these older resto's were using non detergent oil, so if you get one and pour in modern oil and take off running . . you're asking for trouble fairly quickly.

  4. Don't get me wrong, I love all the old stuff.
I really dig looking at stockers too actually Any old car gets me going especially the pre 48 stuff.

    Stocker not equal hot rod.
    Fixed not equal restoration.
    Restoration not equal hot rod.

Of course this plan is pretty much the most popular to implement, pretty logical but its not a hot rod
Just my opinion and agree or disagree doesn't matter really does it?

  5. Yeah Jim forgot to add that one to the list of have dones. The motor didn't look to bad inside for being rebuilt in 1945!!!

You are my HERO . 29 is so fine. so would a 22RE motor swap and driven it every day be 'traditional' HotRodding???

  11. why do you need a 22RE to drive it everyday?

  13. A 22re could be traditional if it was from the 30's :)
    But it's not!!
Why would you need a modern motor to make it an everyday driver? People did and still do use these old cars as dailies.

    Hi Everyone,

My buddy Jay told me he posted this about my car after I swung by for a visit. I thought I'd clarify my intentions and ask you all for some advice. Unfortunately, this is a slooooow build, so I don't think it would make for an interesting build thread. I'll consider one when I really start getting into it. I've read a lot threads and have a decent idea where I'm headed.

First off, my intentions were to build a little 40s style banger. I've always wanted one and finally got around to just pulling the trigger. I'm a total newbie to the craft even though I've been a fan forever. I purposely bought one that wasn't road ready so I could rebuild a stock A before I started building a hot rod. I want to really get to know the car's stock performance so I can notice the difference all of the modifications make. Plus, what's fun about buying a car that's already built?

    Basic plan-

    High compression head
    Down draft carb
Juice brakes (I've collected most of the parts)
16" spokes (sorry Jay, I'm more of a spoke guy than a steelie guy)
    Drop the stance
    Keep the fenders
    No chop

Here's some questions for you all (I've read a lot of threads but I'm looking for what is/was the most popular reliable set up)-

What's a good down draft carb set up? What is the preferred carb to run?
    Any recommendations for exhaust?
How about the distributor? Is stock ok?
    What are standard suspension mods?
    Any transmission recs?

Any other advice is greatly appreciated including definite "don't"s when trying to stay period correct.

    Thanks for all the help!
