first of all thanks to 32Es*** got it running ,idles pretty good. took for a ride got a little bit of pinging and some popping at hire rpm's. got home and wouldn't start back up. let cool down and started. was going to try to set timming but couldn't keep running when i unhooked the va***e-advance from carb and plugged. any thoughts? jim
I had to look back at your other post to see what engine your talking about. Ping under load should be timing. Over advanced (I'm pretty sure anyway). I'd have to look it up again, but I thought the procedure for setting timing (at least on earlier flatheads) is retard screw all the way out, drive, pinging, screw in a turn, drive, ping, repeat till ping stops. I had a problem with a car that would start great when cool, then shut down when hot. Turned out to be the old coil. It would start cutting out on me then just die. Left it for an hour, and off it would go.
