There is a thread on dashes that really came in handy for me and timing was juist rite. I wanted something differant than stock and after looking at all posts I decided that I really liked the '40z Pontiac gauge cluster. The '42 has the round gauge holes and the '48 has the rectangle ones. I am leaning toward the '42 as it has horizontal ribs that resemble the vertical ribs on my '36 waterfall in the clock ashtray area. I started by cutting out the outline of the cluster so that I can french it in from the backside. Took 3/16" brake line and bent the outside perimiter and blended into the dash. Spot welded 4 studs and installed stainless brakeline hold downs to "pinch" the cluster between the dash from the back. It will all be painted black but that will be awhile yet. Thanks to flynbrian & slantback for the heads up on finding the clusters!
i'm like'in this dash alot!!looks very good...i'm close to trying to figure out how to lay a 53 cheiftian cluster into Lil Beast.....but its still aways off...
Now that's nice! I like the way you made it all match so well, folks will be scratchin' their head tryin' to figure what you did.
Thanks, but I've already spent enough on gauges I wrecked and ones to replace them! I have a plan, I'm gonna stick with it, although I AM going to move 'em over a little now! Brian
nice job. I've got a 35 dash and 48 Pontiac gauge I've been thinking about doing this to for my 34 pickup. tagged this later. Sent from my SM-G920R4 using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Old post but more morphing! Sold the coupe dash when I sold the 3/W. Now trying to morph some kind of gauge set up in the Roadster dash, as you can see less acreage to work with. I kept a '42 Pontiac bezel, speedo face and lens, also picked up a Lincoln speedo & gauge cluster. I like the Gold/Black look, kinda rich looking! If I keep the Lincoln gauges I will separate the oil, temp, amp, fuel gauges and put behind round bezels. The Lincoln speedo will not fit into the Pontiac cluster so more thinking needed. Both speedo diameters are doable but pushing the limits space wize.........................................
