Cheers J Man, it was 3" out of the B pillar which translated to 3 7/8" out of the A pillar.

Was a good fun day Nick with a very pleasing result, if we can get 125 mph well be happy!

So you kept the A pillar angle stock and slid the whole roof forward; then pushed the top of the rear window forward? Interesting.
From what I see; it looks like the nicest Morris chop I've seen. I'd like to see a direct side shot to see how the whole package looks with th erear done that way.
When I chopped VW's (and a Renault Dauphine 4 door once) I cut the roof through and added a piece acress it to keep the A,B, and C pillars stock.
I loved my old Minor, I had one I drove to school (my Dad wouldn't let me drive our Max Wedge Dodge to school) that was Cadillac Firemist Blue, and flamed.

Looks good, these are hard to chop right, most examples look like crap, not yours.

    Thanks for the comments guys.

Storm King, I'll try and get a side photo for you, well as good as I can as it's still on wood at the moment.

  13. Very neat work, well thought out.
Should not take too many ponies to make that a real fast machine,
What have you planned to stuff in that engine bay ?
Down the years I have seen close to every motor under the sun
shoehorned in, Fiat, Ford V6, Rover/Buick, even a Jag,
I fancied a 302 Ford, never seen one done, but tape measure says it would fit.
Which is fairly crazy for an engine bay that only ever had an 1098cc motor as stock.
Mind you to get something that in, the amount of set back you would need,
would probably put most of the engine back in the cab.
Anyway great going, look forward to seeing more pictures of progress.

A mate of mine and partner in the car Mark Bull had it drawn out before we even got there to start the chop and decided that a the typical 4" chop is too much, I just hacked it about abit really!

Our plan was a 350 SBC i picked up years ago with a big wack on nitrous but I've been dismantling that motor this week and it's pretty fucked up inside so we are on to plan B now. Plan B is to see what deal we can come across, I've got a mate in LA so he's looking around and I'm keeping an eye on craigslist and there is Pomona the 7th of Decemeber so hopefully someones in desparate need for some xmas cash. A SBC with a powerglide behind it is still our preferred choice due to the cost of them really, it's just some mates trying to go 125 mph in the quarter for as few £'s as possible. We figure if we can get it weighing 2,800 lbs with driver and then start with at least 400hp motor and put 100 - 150 shot through it we should see 10.6's -10.2's with a 125 mph trap. Naturally tyre size, RPM and final drive ratio all nee to be sorted but we should get there as long as we can get a smoking deal now our first motor is useless.

There's a build thread going on over on the UK NSRA if you want to to keep tabs on it - http://www.nsra.org.uk/newforum/showthread.php?t=17096

Really, really nice. Stock they look kinda goofy; you made it look cool.

Did you completely cut out the rear window, or did you leave it attached at the bottom and just tilt it forward.

Anyway, nice design and a well done chop.

Maybe set back that SBC and drive it from the rear seat.

When I usta race my Fiat 600 with VW power there was one of these that was chopped. It ran really fast with VW power also. If I remember right it would go 10.90 at 135 esh mph.--TV

Wow, cheers for the postive comments people!!

Zibo, some sort of sbc and a glide with a spooled 9" on shortish ladder bars, front end will be a Vauxhall Viva independent front because its cheap or possibly free. We are going to make a box tube frame and as Plym49 says, we'll be sitting quite far back, as far bak as the roll cage will allow.

Plym49, we cut the window all the way round bar about 3" in the centre but when we lined it up it gave a slightly funny angle on the rear window. So we tacked the top in and then cut the 3" and jiggled it about a bit until the side profile was better. We ended up trimming to much off the top of the rear window that it ending up butting against the roof rather than over lapping. But we know how to do the next one properly now and filler will sort this one out.

I like that kustom chop there forty1, just shows that different goals require different paths!

If all ya want is tens, and you're gonna put a 100 or 150 shot to NOS to it, I can take the 164,000 mile 318 out of my dodge truck and it'll do it.

Yeah that was our original view with our tired 350 but I've got the feeling we might get a little gas greedy as I've always wanted to run a 9! When I pulled it open the bores were ridged and the bearings full of crap so it needs maching and that just makes it a wasn't time and money over here.

It was 3" in the B pillar that turns out to be 3 7/8" (I think) out of the A pillar. Make a triangular template that is 3" tall and matches the angle of the A pillar and you'll then have your marks for the 3" vertical chop. Then we cut up the A pillar sections we cut out and welded them inside the pillar so the roof could slide over the top for more strength, another one of Mark Bull's good ideas.

Just curious, what are you using for front suspension. I am sure it is something I will not have here in the states but still interested. I have a truck and have no idea what to use for the front without going full custom build.
