I found myself under a Suburban that was moving briskly.

No, I wasn't working on it. Some idjit ran me over while crossing the street.

How about on top the car ? I hauled a piper cub from Wendover UT to minnesota on the roof of a VW rabbit. No wings, but fuselage on the roof, engine, landing gear, and tail feathers in the hatch back. The rabbit hated it, 4th gear all the way home, and the diesel needed a head gasket soon after we got back. Not recommended.

I've seen a couple of those Pinto flex steering shafts on "g***er" I beam front axle rigs that had a rack and pinion fastened to the axle.

I can remember back in the 70's when I worked at the Firestone store in Down Town Waco Tx every afternoon just after Waco High let out a kid would come flying up the street and make the corner by the store in his 56 Chevy four door that had two sets of aftemarket shackles bolted together to raise it higher and had some probably H 60 tires on the back, When he made a left hand corner the whole left rear tire would be outside the fender.

I remember a lot of rods with impact universal joints **** welded into the steering shaft as a universal joint around that time in Texas too. Those were on rods that would run 80 miles an hour down two lane roads in Texas at the time.

My neighbor. The only tool in his garage is when he is in it.

When I worked for Buick I used to find all kind of critters. Rac****s, possums, cats, lots and lots of cats. Some were even alive, others not so much.

Is this what is being discussed, a steering shaft coupling?

coil springs from a railroad boxcar hose clamped to the rearend and wedged between the rear floor pan or frame!
    Musta rode great, eh?

The Pinto cables were made like a speedometer cable, but about 3/4" diameter, if I remember right.

This is a rag joint. Chevy Caprice, factory stock. On many other cars as well.

I saw a 33/34 Ford coupe with green lights illuminating the ground underneath it.

The worst was my next door neighbor sold his 4 speed SS 350 Nova to a guy at work. Less than a week later he had sellers remorse and tried to buy it back. Went to look at it and the guy had already wired up and installed blue lights in all 4 wheel wells. And he did a ****py job wiring it. Looked at Larry we both said no thanks. A week later the car burned to the ground. Electrical fire! The car was Hugger Orange. Black vinyl top, interior, and rally stripes.

Don Hardy race cars used those Pinto flex shafts in their full ch***is build cars all through the 80's. They may look a bit su****ious, but millions of Fords had them, and I don't recall hearing of failures.

Where I worked I had some lady come in with what she said was a broken rear spring on a Pinto. She hit a pot hole on Brooklyn and a shop there did an emergency repair on it. So I put it on a lift and look at it. As the car goes up, a piece of 4" x 4" wood falls out of it and the rear end drops. It was used in place of the spring. At the front perch, the under body was not even there, rusted out. Our shop foreman wouldn't even let us put the piece of wood back in. The car went out on a wrecker and I have no idea what happened to it.

yep, i actually used one as a hookup to a steering box on an old coupe. I had a really weird angle and the flex shaft thing worked great-and gave no problems. Not that i would recommend it.

The Hamb is no place for discussions about ford pintos, and other late model nonsense. lets get back to traditional hot rods and customs alright fellas?
