I guess maybe I sold my pair of 32 shells to cheap! 500.00 for one that needed a little grille work on the fins & 650.00 for a really nice one! Sure I could of put them on ebay and set a reserve higher than hell, but I chose to help a HAMB brother out! It`s still alot of money for shells!

Both LOOK pretty good.....but have the tops filled.....

........OH......and they are NOT MINE... :D[/QUOTE]

That's the problem, filled tops. Seems like everyone has been/is filling them!:(
I guess I could "unfill" one if I found a donor top....with a bit of care, you can't see the work on either side. I'd rather find a clean one to start with, though.

So, Muffman, do you know where a fellow Kansan can find another one in decent shape?

I paid 1200 for mine. wasn't happy about it but i wanted a complete one.

How much do those 32 winter fronts go for? they have to be way more than a grill shell.

BINGO October 25th What can I say. I qualify.

Kirk, I can only play in my world. Occasionally my world rubs up against the megabuck world. Some will tell you what they paid first. I avoid them. That's how they keep score. Some will tell you how long they looked and searched for that perfect part for their perfect vision and are somewhat embarr***ed about what they had to spend to get it. Many won't tell you. I love talking parts with them. We are on the same page just different tax brackets.

The 8000 deal was 2 ego trips trying to out do the other. The grille wasn't important to them...beating the other guy was important to them. **** them. The cherry original grill is the important part!

We all love the cars and trucks that George Poteet puts together. It's only because of Ebay that we know to what lengths he will go to get that perfect part for that perfect vision.

I still want an original part for my hot rods or a hand made part that could have been made by a hot rodder in his garage way back when. I can get a Brookville dash for my roadster but I'm still holding out for a clapped out rough POS that I can afford and restore like an old hot rodder would have done when he could't afford the 20 bucks for a cherry one. Stoopid huh? Only I will know for sure.

Tommy.....I believe you and I are on the same page, in the same book.... :)

I see all these new Johnny come lately guys paying BIG BUCKS....for stuff and smile. I even SELL THEM some stuff.....

Not counting my new engine.....I have way less money in my 32 Roadster than a new full size American car would cost....and I have never paid more than $1200 for a 32 part... ( ..OK....that's a lie...but just once :D ) Not counting cars.....

i was just over to a dudes house that has two super nice 32 grills & shells.
    swap meet purchases.

one still has the price tag of $75.00 on it & he jewed & paid $60.00 for it.
the other was much less. he bought them both at swap meets years ago & he thought he got shafted then!

All this talk of deuce parts and their values is interesting. I have deuces and I do need parts, but I can't/won't play the ebay game. So I've made many parts and re-worked marginal parts in my quest for the car of my dreams. Case in point, I bought my 3w in '82 without a dash. Looked for a long time. Paid for one in Okla City but the guy took my money and stiffed me. Paid for one being reproduced in Sparks Nevada but the company went ***ters and again my money looked lost but Mastercard reimbursed me. A few years ago a buddy calls me and says "send me $150, I found you a dash" Yikes... money sent, dash received. It'd been filled and cut for gauges "back in the day". So I borrowed a minty one from a friend and made hammerforms to make the missing sections and viola I have the dash I need. Not mint, but it suits me. Most I've paid for a shell?.... $200, I think.

I have one of those....... :D
There are at least 3 different types......from Henry.....besides this one....

I believe the one shown to be a 'early' one. The later ones had the drain off holes. The latest ones had larger holes.....IMHO... Some had different shape holes for the hand crank.....

I talked with a Early Ford V8 judge about it........and he told me he did not know the " How and Why " of it either.....I noticed the differences many years ago.....when you could walk around Hershey and find 50 of them.....and thought that $125 was on the HIGH SIDE........

"From what I have heard" the friend where very happy about it.
He did change the insert with one a bit nicer that was in his posesion. His other shell that got sold to another p***ionate Hot roder, with the insert from Klazurfers shell.
    Parts move around you know?

The worst thing is that I am cutting down this rustfree cherry old original to fit my 28 on deuce frame.

    Why WHY WHY
I can get a nice Brookville and cut up that one.
    No can do.
    P***ion P***ion

My brain is ****ed up and tells me it's springtime 1946. No repops available at the time.

......I'm with Tommy here. I have had to make a few compromises here and there but they are sc**** and will get sorted out one day.

I'm not building hot rods for a living. (would have killed me instantly by starvation) I'm focusing on this one heap and want it to be as correct as possible. Do not care a bit what others think.
This is for me..........and sometimes it ends up beeing something for klazurfer also, since we share garagefloors and he has the same ****ed up mind. Perhaps even worse :D

Will it have a beadblast and new paint............nope. I have brushpainted the bare metal spots with similar color oil-based enamel.

If anyone wants to buy it for $8K he better have something nice to trade. This shell is mine and mine to keep.

"$1600 at Moultrie, GA a few weeks ago....a commercial went for $1400..."

Interesting, there...commercials used to be practically free. They have become very popular, and some people prefer them to p***enger...
They are actually much scarcer than p***enger, and harder to find in decent condition. I'd expect them to go through the roof soon, following the lead of firewalls, pedals, K-members, running boards, and everything else for a deuce.
I patiently found enough parts to ***emble a couple of deuces over about 25 years, since I couldn't afford actual cars. Now, parts are proportionally higher than cars, and the supply of many things has almost vanished. I really don't think you could ***emble a whole deuce in a couple of p***es through Hershey anymore, regardless of money!
Another disturbing development is the lack of price crashes as repro stuff comes out--Brookville sells a zillion pretty nice bodies, while the price of originals continues to shoot up! Deuces have always cost more than other hotrod fodder, but I think the future looks bleak for regular people who don't already have theirs.

Think about it. Dude is walking around a swap meet and is like "Nice deuce grill." Looks at the tag ($1500) and thinks to himself "Ehh... not expensive enough for me." Then he goes down a couple tables and sees one with just a little less surface rust, looks at the tag ($2500) and thinks to himself "This is the one for me!" That is insanity in my book. Heck... he could buy a ****ty condition deuce body for $2500 (well mostly model t bodies but you get my point). It's ridiculous

I'm pretty sure $2500.00 will only buy you 20,000 hours of sweat, heartbreak, and cussing, when it comes to '32 bodies. It might get you a cowl! Can't even get 'gl*** ones for that...
Hmmm....'gl*** looks better than ever, these days. I'm starting to think I could manage to smile pretty close to the same grin in a 'gl*** roadster that I could in a steel one going down the road.
It won't ever be iron oxide, anyway!
I think sense might be returning to fashion...if it ain't, it sure is for me.
Anyone see how cheap you can pick up a '70 Torino these days???
Christ, you even get disc brakes, power ***ist, steering...:D
    Ehhh....it's all perspective.
And relativity...relative to your bank account, your tool collection, and talent level.

This thread was 5 years old before being coming to the top AGAIN.

And those 2005 prices do not seem as unreasonable as they did 5 years ago.

    Wonder how GOOD the 2005 prices will look in another 5 years ( 2015 ) ?? :p

So, how high is SHOCKINGLY EXPENSIVE nowadays??
On those $8,000 dollar ones, I paid $8,000 for a good running B pickup with realdamnfine p***enger grill and shell 10 years ago. For $8,000 I could maybe put the commercial grill on it and still be happy...

The 1932 Ford is an Iconic car.

    Fords first production V8.

Iconic as a Hot Rod as well.

They didn't sell that many of them ( compared to T's and A's ) because of the economic situation of the time.

And then we lost lots of them due to rust, old age, s**** drives, road accidents, just about every type of motorsport ( and the related crashes ), and Hot Rod buildstyles ( every style has its victims...)

Cant believe they are still as cheap as they are...

Well...IMHO...the '32 shell is about the only piece of original tin that is actually common, commoner than the original cars. I think that while '32's were s****ped, looong ago, except for the body styles that became desireable while they were still just used cars, the grills were saved and put on Model A's or something. If you look around every '32 nut has 5 for every car he has, usually hung up on the wall. You rarely see an original steel bodied '32 without one, and I would bet that MANY Hambers could show you their row of spares on the wall.
    They are expensive because...
    A. Any serious '32 nut would sell a kidney LONG before he would sell his eighth best extra backup spare grill...and
    B. Ebay has trained us to square or cube whatever seems a high price for anything '32.

If there were a HAMB census the surplus of grills over '32's would soon be apparent.

And in the crazy years of early modern streetrodding when fenders and stuff jumped from $25 into the thousands, grills were the last bit to shoot up. There were enough to sate the market until quite recently.
