No way in hell I would pay that kind of ridiculous money for '32 stuff even if the money didn't matter to me. When the trend level and demand goes up, my interest level goes down accordingly.

Honestly, I am into Studebakers because of the design and history and the unusual factor and very glad the cost is cheap to reasonable for pretty anything I would want. I hope it stays that way. But, if not, I will gladly change my focus to some other road less travelled. Other guys are welcome to shell out the bucks to be part of the popular crowd if they want and there's room for that, just not for me personally.

Plus, regardless of money, I would rather have a T roadster or a '34 anyway, not that '34's are that much cheaper.

I bought a Henry's shell off eBay about two years ago. It wasn't perfect; a little surface rust, a stress crack or two at the bottom and a dent here and there. It didn't have the insert but overall was a very nice grille shell. I paid $550 for it. By the time I had a bit of bodywork done, had it color matched to my car and installed a greyhound( if anyone asks it's cause I think greyhounds look cool) I mounted it on my car. I had $1300 into it. It looks great. If I had to do it all over again, I'd still buy the Real Deal!! I still have the one I took off the car. It's got a filled top and is in mint shape. It's hanging in my dads shop.....:)

I'm an idiot...or a guy that's good to his friends.

After I sold my coupe, I also sold off all my spare deuce parts...why?...I don't know.

The last deuce part I kept was a NICE, complete grille/insert/bullnose/clouisine/radiator cap/rear stainless. Well, a good friend needed one so I sold it for what I gave for it ($1000) because he needed it more than me at the time.

Now I'm building another deuce (pickemup)...and guess what?...I need another grille & insert!...so I bought a nice insert for $500...a nice bullnose/clouisine for $210... a radiator cap for $50... and a rear stainless trim for $75...totaled it up yet? $835.

Now all I need is a NICE grille shell...can't wait to see what that's gonna cost.

Now Larry ... as president of the elistist, snobby, gold chain wearing club of Deuce guys ... You of all people should KNOW ... that you do not ever sell off ... all ... your 32 stuff. :(

I have sold off a good bit of my 32 stash ( 30 years worth ) ... as I do not plan to build anymore 32's. I used most of the ca$h for the 32 3W build. I still have a good bit of stuff ( I still have two cars ... that might need something  ) but I am way past trying to keep everything sold by Henry Ford in 1932.

You never sell ALL your 32 stuff.

You paitiently wait, and wait for oppertunities when u may have a chance at perfect 32 parts.

Then, and only then, release your grip on the nice stuff.

PLUS ... some time $$$ Money $$$ is no good. You have to trade some 32 Ford parts to get a different 32 Ford part that you need. The guy will NOT sell you anything but he will trade you it for something he has and you want.

They are printing money evry day but there has no been any new original real Henry Ford 1932 Ford parts made in a LONG TIME. You can go into most any convenience store with a gun and get money ... not so with real 32 Ford parts.

I've spent the last few years trying to build a 'period correct' deuce and have to say that I have not always used good sense in buying what I needed. Sometimes you just have to have original. But I found a good line in the sand was that if I was going to cut it or modify it, I would go re-pop. Just couldn't see 1. laying out the bread for something than destroying what made it valuable 2. wasting a Henry Ford part when some people out there are trying to stay stock.

If the part was rusted out or dented up all bets were off. Since I needed to cut and fill my grill shell, I sold my original and hit up Brookville. Don't tell anyone.

  10. I like to joke with friends and say I paid the price of 2 recored strombergs when they ask how much I spent on my 32 grille plus insert. Not a whole lot, granted I told everyone also the most I would ever spend is 500$ on an original. I came in under that luckily. Whats even crazier to me is the original paint matches my model A coupe very closely and makes my car look like what it is not really..... a survivor hot rod without all the fake *** bull patina people pull for the wow factor. This is a mock-up pick as I am still up in the air about running it on my coupe.-Weeks

$8,000.....WTF....MORE MONEY THAN BRAINS! I paid $20.00 for mine back in '63, still hang'n on the garage wall. $2,000 seems to be pretty common now.

  14. I bought a complete and rusty Panel Delivery in 2003 and the guy said there was another grille i could have cause the commercial grille had some welding to do at the bottom. Grille was a very nice p***enger grille with nice insert. The Delivery was cheap so the second grille was like a present to me.
In 2006 i bought 2 orginal inserts from a Model A guy, cost only 100 euro for the two, man i was happy.
Both were found here in Holland.
