I'd like to go to El Mirage this weekend to spectate. Does anyone know if motels are an problem, are rooms usually avalible? What are some good nearby towns to stay in?
There is nothing at El Mirage except desert. Look at Victorville ( east of E.M. ) for the closest decent room. You're literally out in the middle of nowhere, not even a decent market in the area.
Since you are driving down south stay in Lancaster (that's where I stay) its only about 1/2 -45 min to the entrance of the lake bed with decent food and rooms. Don't forget to buy your lake bed pass at the SCTA trailer, don't want to ruin your fun by getting a ticket on the way out.
I am assuming you will be checking the SCTA web site. There has been some weather issues with the lake lately. I stayed at Mo. 6 in Lancaster once. Wouldn't do it again. After that i always stayed at a place on Palmdale Blvd. But I can't think of the name. Just saw SCTA notice that El Mirage is closed due to rain. That may change. Check back with the web page........
I fell in with love the ocean, mountains and desert areas in California and spent as much time as I could exploring all of it, when I lived out there; and you betchum, I watched a lot of racing at El Mirage. Adelnato is South of the lake. Try this list, if you're looking for lodging. http://www.yellowpages.com/adelanto-ca/hotels
