This may be true, but those people work for US, and most of those public employees mentioned need to learn to respect those who are feeding them! Any time I have to deal with any public official, It seems as if they actually believe they are doing me a favor. When they start that BS with me, I calmly pick up my papers, or whatever, and walk away. Then I figure out a way to "back door" their ***.

That's not a "specialized" plate, that's the plate you need.
At every DMV office I've been to,they have a big binder that has examples of ALL California issued plates.
Get a Supervisor (be nice) to help you.

i was just told it is specialized bc they are old plates that had to be cleared in order to use. normal would be plates that ONLY have not fallen out of the system.

Those people also work to protect us by not registering bogus cars. How would you feel if your car was stolen and some guy with a good story was able register it because "his tax dollars pay the DMV's salaries?" There's a reason they require so much proof with altered or missing vin#'s, and that's to stop cars from being parted out, then re-registered. Like anything else in life, there are rules to the DMV game, and it's easier than you think to play by the rules, but once you get started in a ******* contest, you'll lose, whether it's with the DMV, the IRS, or the cop alongside the road. Trust me, I've tried it both ways, and it sure works better with a smile and a good at***ude.

  7. Something doesn't sound right. Do they say something like "JANS58"?

Cut out the middleman and call the CA DMV 1-800 number and ask for the phone number for the special plates office in Sacramento. Talk to them. I believe they're the ones that approve special plates, as in that's where those forms go.

    Thanks,
    Kurt

My plates are a series of 3 letters a space and 3 numbers. I talked to 4 different DMV people 1 being a supervisor and they all said the same thing. Said it is a "NEW" regulation. I just have to wait for the people to sign them off or take a day off work and drive back to their house.

You are correct sir. I was commenting on the at***ude purveyed by too many persons, whose job it is to solve problems such as these. From my experience, most just do not care. Hopefully, such public employees in your area, display a different perspective. As for a stolen H.A.M.B. friendly vehicle here in Georgia...forget about it! Too much work for way too few investigators, so if you live here, please take the proper measures to keep
your property safe. Example... My pal had his '64 Chevy stolen. Powers that be kept saying "we're working on it", so he made a concerned effort to find it himself. Guess what...yep, there it was in crack central with a set of 22" "Rent A Rims" on it, so he stole it back. Well, next day the cops come to his workplace with a warrant for HIS arrest! Seems the crackhead who had the car gave the cops some song and dance and got the Rent A Rim joint to back up his claim. After spending hard earned cash on a lawyer, and paying impound and storage fees, HIS one family owned '64 Chevy was returned to him...less wheels and tires.
As to entering int a ******* contest, like I said, I just walk away before it starts. Then I find some other way to accomplish my goal.:)

Hey, as long as this thread is resurrected, anyone here ever try to use YOP instead of YOM plates? Year of Parked...
Just made a deal on a '54 Caddy with plates on it that expired in '65. On a survivor parked that long, I think it would be cool to run plates from the year it was taken off the road (when still a late model).
I'll have a properly notarized, clear, in-state ***le, of course...
