What type of connector are you using to connect the power feed to the distributor. If you are just using a female slide instead of the wire end with the clip that holds the connector in place they will shake loose just enough to kill the engine but not fall off. I fought that issue on my 71 when I converted to an hei last year.

Carb has a 1 inch spacer on it allready. Yes, running the spade type connectors, though it is pretty snug. If that was the case though I'd think i wouldnt be getting spark when it wont start.
Really looks to be an electrial issue to me, and i HATE electrical stuff!

I know I commented in your thread before, going to say it one more time..
have you checked the ignition switch?

  5. The more you discuss this, the more I am thinking you have a main power issue, as Mr48 said. Those HEI units should throw a spark you can hear snap across a noisy shop.

Has it been necessary to pump the gas to get it started?

Put a factory Duraspark on it, a 351M motor doesnt need all that hi dollar stuff on it. It aint going to have any power no matter what you do to it. I had one and threw all kinds of money at it, waste of time and money in my HO

yes, as stated above, i replaced the ignition switch.

    I'm getting good spark.

typically i turn on the key, wait a second for the fuel pump to get pressure and crank starter and it goes. hardly ever have to hit the gas to start it unless its sat for a few days, then 1 pump does the trick.

When its in a non starting fit it doesnt help to hit gas or not.

as per high dollar ignition versus stock. it was actually cheaper to go to the mallory than it was to find enough parts to fix the non functioning obsolete factory ignition.

    Well, get simple stupid.

Put a pressure guage in the fuel line and started it up. ran great, then pressure dropped to a solitary 1lb and it died, sat for a bit, turned it back on and no pressure came back. The less than 3 month old electric fuel pump looks to have taken a **** on me.
    Finaly closure to this chapter!
