Turns out my recently acquired Scout was owned by an Indian dirt racer of some note, Eddie Bratton. Here's an old photo of the bike.
Yep, cool. Sometime in the late '80s I bought one of the first FXRPs to come across the CHP auction block. While it was still full dressed and black and white I would drop my young step daughter off at school with it. To see her run up to her jealous friends was a sight. Is that a Pan with a Shovel top end?
My first Harley. Me and my two pals rented this house and terrorized the town on our Sportsters. Used to invite the whole bar over after closing time. Eviction followed.
^^ You seldom see scenes like these anymore. I had a buddy whose parents would head out of town most summer weekends which resulted in their driveway and backyard looking like a used muscle car lot. The buckets and sponges were out, the doors were open so we could listen to "Ten Years After" or the "Woodstock" soundtrack, and the six packs were on ice. Kool photo.
They probably serve beer at the Sturgis library. My first Shovelhead. And my first flame job. Got a little carried away I guess but it came out pretty good. Painted over it after awhile.
Early Honda 750 I rattle canned together in the '80s. Pretty worthless at the time, I think I sold it for 300 bucks, but lately these sort of things seem to be gaining popularity with the younger guys.
This picture is me about 20 years ago on a 1934 flathead. Dad bought the bike and says it is mine when I want it. this is my late uncle's 71 (if not 71 it was close). It was the first bike I broke. While trying to kick start it I broke the kicker spring. He let me use the push button so at least I started it. A few months later I got my chance and was able to kick start the bike. It was supposed to be the bike I learned to ride but unfortunately my uncle passed before I was old enough. My uncle painted the tank with bowling pins to "represent the AMF years".
Great chopper stuff! Trying to find a photo of my brother in law's 45 trike with huge springer, love seat, roof with dingle balls. I'm not kidding! Speaking of forks... I built this about 10 years ago and still ride it. 1948 HRD powered. So I was at a swap meet, mostly Harley stuff. One guy had a bunch of forks, springers, girders etc., all tagged big money. And there was this front end, which if you're into it is pretty cool, Ceriani road race forks, double sided Benelli brake. How much says I. 20 bucks the guy says! Didn't need to bargain on that one!
My 1974 FXE. Bought it used in 1977. Built from the ground up in next two years. One of the first set of Morris Mags. S&S internals, Super B carb, Andrews close ratio gears and #6 cam. At the time, one of my childhood friends( Jim) owned Harvey Plating here in Illinois. Jim and two of us were all building shovels at the same time. All three of us still have the bikes today. Jim recently passed and his son got his. The tanks are knuckle's, modified to fit a shovel, with the old style petcock. The paint is 1978 Imron. Still looks good today. Changed the seat, and upgraded the brakes in the 90's.
Absolutely love the Shovelhead FX’s. I had a 1982 FXS with an S&S top end that I installed. Bike ran like a scalded dog. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
I got a Confederate Special Fx sitting in my shop next to my FXS that sits next to my KZ900. There all just sitting there, only ride my FXWG Twin Cam Bones
I posted pictures of my uncles bikes above, recently his best friend passed away so some pictures of him and his bike were posted on Facebook, here they are...
