from the Vintage Photos Part 2 thread post by @j hansen A Hot Bike for the times… 2.25 x 2.25 Ektachrome using a Mamiya Twin Lens Reflex camera… Hello, After going to Ascot Raceway Park in Gardena, CA to watch the motorcycle TT races, we got overly psyched from those cool looking Harleys and TT style Triumphs. My brother and I talked a lot about branching out into motorcycles, but the hot rods still were a big part of what we were doing. So, for all purposes, it was part of teenage ideas and perhaps a future for us. before the final destruction. It was exciting to see so many racers skittering around the track, sliding and battling for that coveted first place. If one is out in front, then “stuff” does not come flying back to hit you in the face. Yikes! Jnaki As older brothers go, my older brother was smart. He knew we would be stretched thin on money. If we branched out into motorcycles and hot rods, we would be very busy and lost without an infusion of more cash. So, we attended the races, were in awe of the top TT motorcycle racers and wanted to try on some “Leathers” to at least look cool. But, our hot rod stuff took over and we got involved until we were no longer involved. Then we moved on to our desert racing adventures on modified motorcycles. But, no “leathers” for us. But, ten years down the road, my new adventures called for a custom motorcycle and a Harley Sportster stopped by for a 6 year visit. During this time, we tried to make it look like the famed TT race bikes, but comfortable for my wife to sit on the back with some support for those long rides. YRMV
Here are a two of my bikes. The Triumph will get lights and some sort of silencing to make it road legal. The BMW is my little sidecar outfit. Lots of fun when hauling the grandkids around. Today we got a lot of snow so I jumped on the Beemer to have some drifting fun - the car idiots in their 4WDs could not believe it ;-)
