I am primarily a Chevrolet guy, but I've always liked the 57 Ford; and like someone else already said, the lower the trim level the better. And I too would prefer an FE motor in one. But, it's your car, so run with it. Now, about your car hauling trailer; I have a pair of unused, replacement fenders I bought for my trailer, but decided to beat the old ones back into shape. So, I have a pair of fenders I have no use for, and you or anyone else that wants them can have them for the shipping. I am Butch/56sedandelivery.

FE's were original equipment in 58, pretty much identical to 57's.
They were original equipment in 58, same car basically as a 57. y block motor mounts were even the same.

I like your project. I'm a chevy guy at heart but my current projects are a 38 std. coupe' and a 52 F1 both with flatties! However if that 300 were my car it would have an FE or maybe a 312 with a McCullough...

  4. 57 Fords.............One of my all times favorites. Maybe someday I'll get the chance to own one.

  5. I'm using a SBC in my '59 as well. The costs going with a 429/460 or 351C and a 4-speed were more than I wanted to spend and I already have a ton of Chevy options on hand. Using what's around, simple hotrod economics.

  6. lol....The Ford guys will tell ya they're aren't too many left because many of them were used up in drag and stock car racing, while the Chevy's just sat around cause nobody wanted to drive 'em.

Got the left side a pillar put rigger tacked in place with some bracing. Couple dress up plates and it should be good to go.

Ford outsold Chevrolet in 1957. It was an all hands effort by the Ford Motor Company to do so. Never before or since have so many models been offered, based on the same platform. Ford was successful and out sold Chevrolet in 57 for first time in many years. Ironically this effort cost them. The recession of 58, the failure of the Edsel, Ford withdrawal from factory performance hurt the company in the later 50s.

Ford may have won the sales battle in 57. The 57 Ford defiantly lost the war of Pop Culture though.
One car was the sales leader...57 Ford
The other became an American Icon...57 Chevrolet.
That's why you see more Chevys.
I prefer the Ford now, but as a little boy drawing images of cars, having a favorite Hot Wheel....It was the 57 Chevy.
How many 57 Ford couches have you seen?

Quick little clip of the sbc 400 running from the first fire up, last year on labor day.

Today I got the frame mounts for the front motor plate made up, and tacked in place, as well as started the passenger side cage out rigger.

Hope to have the 2 out riggers at similar completion points, the motor/trans put away, and the frame upside down by the end of the week. Tons of finish welding to do, and I refuse to do it on my back. Haha.
