That Deuce was parked on a back side road in Pawhuska during the ROC reliability run a few years ago. It wasn’t power parked on main street but dang if it didn’t stop me in my tracks. Yeah, near perfect Deuce Highboy in my opinion. And the exhaust note was extra special if I remember correctly. Let me see if I can dig up a picture.. I spy my old 39 sedan way in the background. Miss that car!
WOW!!! Great Roadster for sure. Good luck with the move. Hopefully soon, the pain and ***ociated details will be just a memory. Then, there's the unpacking!
Saw it that same year at the gas station and had to chat and drool. What a great hot rod! And yeah, moving absolutely ****s. But you’ll be cruising mountains roads once reserved for the hot rod hill climb reliability run instead of sweating your face off in Texas trying to get this all sorted out before ya know it.
Aw, hell... my working ***le accidentally went live on this one. The actual move isn't for another week. Truth is, though, life is a miserable little slog at the moment. Every morning brings another stack of boxes, another phone call, another form to sign, another opportunity to question every decision that led me here. I've been living like a professional mover with a paperwork addiction. That said, hard work has a way of sanding the rough edges off a man. At least that's what I keep telling myself while carrying another damn box. I suppose it's good for the soul... ***uming the soul survives it...
Ryan, please know I'm not trying to top your story.. but it could always be worse. We moved back to Norman, OK in 2024 and it took a full year to sell my house in Texas. In the meantime all 7 of us lived with my Mom (9 total) in a 2100 sq ft house for 20 months. We moved into our own place back in Feb. Just be glad you're not moving back in with your folks! You talk about rough edges being sanded off? Mine were sanded off with a plasma cutter!
I'd rather take a beating with a claw hammer than to move again. They will haul me off to Trembling Hills from my current home.
I felt like throwing up every time I brushed my teeth, honestly the most stress I ever felt in my life
Thanks for for the inspiring video! I understand. The roller coaster of real estate listing, showing, looking, traveling back and forth, only to be rewarded with disappointment and failures. Unbelievable stress from an ever shrinking deadline to find something to meet your needs. Months wasted waiting on the bureaucracy to do their simple jobs. Opportunities missed due to their slow response time. The over whelming crush of making some order of the hundreds of moving boxes unloaded by folks who just wanted to get through the job, having never moved such a collection of car stuff. Total exhaustion from over doing my body and brain day after day. But I did lose 15 pounds. The aggravation of finding new medical providers after 16 years with the ones you trusted. The glimmer of excitement seeing the possibly of finally retrieving your toys still in storage. And a prayer of thanks that you’re still alive, and are tougher for going through it all. At least you’re moving to a beautiful place from one less scenic. I did just the opposite. You will make it!
Seeing the thread ***le, all I could think of was what I had to practice saying after I bought my pickup. Happy trails!
......Ain't that the truth! You don't know just how many friends and relatives you have until you own a truck!!
Been in my place 33 years, ain’t leaving till they carry me out on a stretcher. At least I hope that’s the way it plays out.
Thanks for posting. The move wasn’t too bad - although we did sell a dental practice and a home, along with the immigration process and various details such as bank accounts, etc. We now have a home, a nice shed (shop) and I have imported 3 antique cars and an old Harley. The challenging part with the cars is the certification. NZ has some of the strictest certification requirements in the world - with every component on the car requiring do***entation and inspection. This is a big contrast with Texas where there are no inspections at all. Thankfully the car was a solid build and I had Ben Thomas install mufflers, high and low beam lights as well as turn signals prior to shipping. On New Zealand end Greg Stokes of GMS Hotrods helped me navigate the complex cert process. I’m grateful to have met him as he made it as pain free as possible. I have been driving the car for about 8 months now. I love the car and the scenery and winding roads are amazing - we love it here.
I can both sympathize and empathize with you, having survived 22 moves in 57 years of marriage. Most have been the result of work requirements; none have been to a place that I would consider calling home. All have been stressful; probably more so for my wife since she was the one who had to deal with the packing, unpacking, closing out and opening utility accounts, and school registration for six children. Selling and buying houses and the signing of forms depended on my work schedule. I really only had to handle the physical part; the actual move and set-up. Sometimes, it has almost been like a treasure hunt; there's the thrill of finding an un-opened box from three moves back and after opening it, the dismay of finding out that you've already bought a replacement. Take heart, yours is a relatively simple move. You'll get through it just fine.
Immigrating to NZ is a process that is tough by itself. Getting all of those vehicles through cert is most certainly a challenge on top of that. From a US based Kiwi - enjoy my home country and the hot rod community.
Here is part of my moving night mare .. 5 years ago When I finally put my house up for sale in Calif after complete remodel and paint inside and out. I had nothing but a nightmare finding a Realestate agent. It was during the time when Houses were selling like hot cakes, people fleeing the state and City Slickers moving to more rural areas like where my house was in calif I had a arrogant Agents tell me she wont be my agent unless I replace my brand new kitchen counter tops and put in granite counter tops and all new appliances and new stove. Several others that were just flakes and never even showed up for appointments they made with me. Some agents were flat out nasty *****es, and talked trash and tried to scold me like they were Queen of England or something. I finally got fed up and used this Young Male RE agent to sell my house, and signed a sales contract. He ended up being a partyer and bragged about his dunkin escapades after work. He failed to represent me properly as his seller as per the RE contract, and was more interested in kissing up to the a rich doctor that was going to buy my house who had his own agent. He completely screwed up my sale, did not represent me, and I had to contact His Boss the Broker and also send him a written letter about how his agent screwed up my sale after I had completed the sale and left the state for good. His broker made good on his agents failure and screw up and the agent had to pay for damages and his screw up out of his own commission.. Im sure he got in big trouble with his broker/boss. Lucky My buyer agent In Idaho was very experienced ,very good and also had helped me with what to do about Calif agents screw up and failure About a year later I received a drunkin email from that calif agent, trash talking me and threatening me for contacting his boss the broker and getting him in trouble. I just ignored the email as if I never received rather than react to it ...I should have reported him the the Calif RE board , and Im not a sueing type person , but should have got a RE lawyer and sued him,,,, rant off
I don’t enjoy moving. Best wishes, Ryan! Packing is interesting in that one finds things you forgot you had. I, at least , wonder what was yesteryear me thinking when I squirreled these items away.
I hate moving...... .... and the last we really purged..... downsized from 6800 sq. feet to 1250.... it was time. We dumped 8 industrial dumpsters.. 14 yards each.. art, sheetmetal, books furniture... 30 years of ****. S****ed a ton at the local dump. about 25 trips.... by myself.. Never want to do that again. and me being cheap..I moved us by myself. We bought and rent 2-40 foot sea Cans.. 2 years later we are kinda settled. Oh yea.I built a shop in between all that.... the mental and physical anguish can take a ton out of you. I never want to do that again.... I really Feel for you.
