im moving the leaf springs on my 50 chevy truck to the inside of the frame . im trying to get some ideals on how to do the rear shackles ? anyone done this & have pics ? thanks
swap the fronts right to left after boxing the frame..rears you should plate and box the frame so you have the flat surface to mount the rear brackets to.. just did a simmilar thing on a 54, but no pix.
I take it you have a 3/4 ton frame as the springs are under the frames on 1/2 tons. A photo of what you have might help but if you have the 3/4 ton setup you can probably put a plate on the inside of the frame and swap the front brackets side to side and build a crossmember to hold the rear brackets/shackles.
Ok ! We did that before. Here are 3 pictures of our 51 Fleetline way back when. I know it's not a truck but the same methods could be applied. We made new 2" X 3" thickwall tubing rails. we built new front mounts which you can see if you look through the floor boards. If you look close enough at the front mounts, you can see that we drilled a lot of mounting holes. This would allow us to adjust the height of the front mount position to allow us to lower and raise the car in small amounts We made a new cross member in the back and made shackle mounts inside the frame. I'll look around and see if there are other pictures of the front mounts. anyone else ?
Couldn't add to the first post so here are some more. There are several more where you can see the mounts. If this doesn't get you what you want, drop me a PM and I will send them to you separately
