I posted last month that we were looking at moving to Austin and it looks it will happen in a couple weeks. We are moving to Leander, just to the north and will be going from a 4 br house to a 2 br apartment. My wife's company is transferring her and she'll even get a raise. I am looking at maybe becoming a teacher at 59 y.o. and using my degree for something. I asked this in Garage Journal, but I thought I might ask here as well to see if anyone has ideas. Way back when, the Navy bases where I was stationed and some larger cities too, had an auto shop where you could go and work on your car for a fee. They even had tools for rent or to borrow. I have tools, but will have no place to do anything. Does anyone who lives in the Austin area know of such a place or am I just out of luck? I have been living vicariously through you guys for a while and hope to have something HAMB worthy someday.
find a place to rent, I have a large shop no heat and simple 110 power. Cost $300.00 mo. I can fit 4 cars no problem. I am not happy there but it beats nothing by a long shot.
GaryB1, Put an overhead door in the bedrom and buy a van and customize it. You and your wife (if she is still living with you after you do that) can sleep in the van when your not working on it.
I would look on craigslist. There is usually a few places available to rent fairly cheap here in Minnesota, I'm sure Austin is no different. Posted from the TJJ App for iPhone & iPad
Get settled in before worrying about a place to work on cars, look around and go to a few cruise in's,,ask questions and inquire about any car clubs in your area. Give it some time. HRP
