  2. I thought I'd add some advise, coming from someone whos'e been in your situation, but at an older age.

I decided to emigrate to Australia in 1999, aged 29. The whole process to get a residency visa is very long and takes plenty of time and effort, which was all worth it in the end. The best advice I could give you if you are serious, is to contact an immigration agent. He'll tell you in minutes whether you'll be eligable to get a residency visa. As one of the other blokes said, there is a points system in place which gives you points for - age, qualifications, experience in your working field, English speaking or not and points for sponsership. When I applied you needed 115 points to be eligible to apply. Without a trade or specialist field, unless you are a refugee from a war torn country you haven't got much chance of getting a residency/work visa, unless you marry an Aussie chick.

Come over for a holiday, decide whether you like it and do an apprenticeship or traineeship back home in some sort of trade then you'll have a very good chance of getting out here as there is a big shortage of tradespersons - so they keep telling us on the tv.

I must admit I didn't come out for a holiday first, all my friends who came out on the 1 years work visa scheme loved it and I came out on their recommendations. I met a great Girl, and we have an 18 month old baby together. Australia is a great place, the weather is good apart from here in Katoomba, and there is still old tin to be found - at a price. Would I do it again - YES, regrets - none apart from wishing I'd come over years earlier.

If you really want to do it - keep it as a goal - something to aim for, whilst you're doing an apprenticeship.

Good Luck for the future, whatever you decide

    cheers

    Bob

If I were you I would come and visit first. It's a long way to come all by yourself. Your biggest problem will be home sickness. Believe me, I know. I moved to Canada for 8 months last year. Even if you say you'll be tough, it will still get to you eventually. Not knowing anyone, not knowing your way around, not to mention our toilets flush the other way. Just come and visit us first.
If you want to get in I would try and do an exchange, or just become a full paying student. Good old Johnny loves full paying student. You will find a student visa will be allot easier than a work visa, and you can get some under the table work easily. People love foreign charm.

  4. Thanks again for the info guys. I will definetely check it out then and do some more research.

That's the steamiest pile of HorseHillary! I have heard in a long time. The SOB has done everything but put official greeters at the border to welcome illegal aliens, and is now even paying them Social Security retirement money. This country is being taken over by illegal aliens who have no desire to become Americans or to learn our culture, and all that traitorous bastard in the White House wants to do is encourage more of them to come so his nephew can be elected president when it is HIS turn to be our "El Presidente Jorge Bush".

The sad part is we didn't even have a real choice. Kerry wouldn't have been any better. It was a choice between Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum Dum. We just happened to chose Tweedle Dum Dum because the other guy was so unlikeable his mother never even wanted to live with him.

I sure don't know what you mean. Bubba-2 has been president over 6 years now,and he has only hired a additional 100 border patrol agents. Thousands of illegals come across the border each day,and Jorge Bush just cheers them on.

Yeah, but that's only for the citizens. Illegal aliens have more rights.

  10. Haha yeah but in a good way at least. Well let me refrase (sp) what I just said. NC is ok. I used to not like it AT ALL. I am getting used to it more and it's not so bad. I would rather live in the West coast if it weren't so darn expensive. ;)

Hey, maybe you need a refresher in Ryan's rules

The HAMB is dedicated to spreading the gospel of traditional hot rods and kustoms to hoodlums world wide. That’s right – TRADITIONAL. And we aren’t talking Beach Boys and poodle skirts here fellas. If you are into a-side 50’s pop, lawn chairs, ruler contests, and all things that make hot rodding warm and cozy then you might want to find another message board. If you aren’t sure what we mean by “traditional”, then you might think twice as well. If you’ve come here to set a rep, talk some shit, and make some fun then you had better turn around right now. We aren't patient.

Even if you have come here for all the right reasons, don’t expect posting to be easy. We don’t cater to new fellas unless they show a dedication to spreading this tradition of ours first. We welcome young, old, foreign and all – but our original members and our staff expect a certain level of respect and an effort to keep things true and on topic.

Maybe you are an old fart with a past. Maybe you are one of the guys that started this tradition we cherrish. We built this place for you and your posts mean the world to us. Hop on and introduce yourself. This is your board.

Still reading? Then you must be cut out for this, right? We recommend you read some more. Check out all the forums, develop an understanding for how things work around here, learn the “do’s” and “do not’s”… The key to a happy HAMB newbie is to understand the joint BEFORE you begin posting. You want to be happy don’t ya newbie?

We have very few written rules here on the HAMB and that’s the way we like it, but we won’t hesitate to dump disruptive posters, ego freaks, or shit talkers. We are all here to learn and teach - please keep your other perogatives on the sidelines.

    Rules:
    1. No profanity in subject lines
    2. No political/religious/racial posts
    3. No Porn.
    4. All personal information listed on this board is private and protected. The HAMB does not sell this information and you are not privy to use it for your own reasons. Test us on this one and we will bite.
    5. New Users must fill out thier profiles. Every bit that you can. Simply click on "User Cp" above and get to work.
    6. New users must introduce themselves in the intro forum.

    Guidelines:
    1. If in doubt, don’t post it
    2. Stay on-topic and relevant with your posts… OT posts aren’t generally appreciated by our membership.
    3. Gotta easy question? Try using the search function first.
    4. Your life here would probably be easier if you complete your profile and introduce yourself before jumping into the deep end...
