So I'm being transferred to the FL Keys this spring and was worried about the salt down there. Are there any HAMBers living in the keys and if so how do your cars hold up? Mike Posted from the TJJ App for iPhone & iPad
I do not think that the Keys are any worse than other coastal beach areas with regard to salt. Washing and waxing will make a big difference in keeping the salt damage under control. The sun can be brutal to rubber and plastic, so shade is your friend. The bigger concern is getting flooded during hurricanes. A lot of cars were destroyed by Wilma in 2005.
I've seen a lot of "conch" cruisers down there .....I'd keep it clean, waxed and maybe covered. We love it down there....Which key??
I lived in Ft. Lauderdale for almost 4 years I about 5 miles inland, not on the water. You will get a salt film from the air on the surface. Don't want to leave anything in bare metal. I tried to spray my vehicles down at least once a week.
