Look at this guy...sort of a global hotrodder/restorer. Fix, modify, reuse everything. A Pantheist of the junkyard. An embodiment of Rat Fink. "You need to be able to modify ... repair, rebuild and reuse" "If you can't open it, you don't own it" "These old bikes, already manufactured, [are] tenderly brought back to life for someone to love anew. The best bike for the environment is one that already exists. Not one made fresh." Inspirational, in a way. We live in a country containing trash and junk sufficient to support us forever practically...with neater stuff than we can buy at Walmart for sure. I've always wanted to shake down my life and surroundings til I have very little newer than the Truman administration... http://www.cnn.com/2009/TECH/04/17/gsif.mister.jalopy/index.html
Jalopy is a friend of mine, .. his tinker shop is down the street from my house, so we hang out quite often. He is a super cool guy and a wealth of knowledge. Check out his blog: http://hooptyrides.blogspot.com/
Another tip of the cap for Mr. Jalopy. I met him through Coop, and at one of the Gene Winfield metal workshop seminar things. Cool guy. Sharp as a tack, and slightly odd in a very refreshing kind of way. Constant thinker.
Very cool. Here's the video: <script src="http://i.cdn.turner.com/cnn/.element/js/2.0/video/evp/module.js?loc=dom&vid=/video/tech/2009/04/16/gsif.mr.jalopy.cnn" type="text/javascript"></script><noscript>Embedded video from CNN Video</noscript>
"The best bike for the environment is one that already exists. Not one made fresh." Same goes for cars...
Another environmental tip is to have only cars that already existed when you were born...that way you can be pretty sure someone else's lungs contain all the pollution from the manufacture!
He's a neat guy, I've been a fan of that blog for awhile. He's way ahead of the movement on this whole green thing.
