Hot Rods Mr. Robinson's 1911 Torpedo T

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by jrblack30, Jan 1, 2011.

  1. Every year we loose more and more of our depression era folks to time, Mr. Joe Robinson included, he left us 3 years ago. I found out about Mr Robinson after his p***ing. He was a great guy that was proud of his early cars and wasn't afraid to drive them. Joe Robinson, build and restored br*** era cars. He like many of his generation was ready willing and able to do many things. He had a full, highly organized, well equipped workshop. He poured his own babbit bearings, babbit rod, bored his own blocks, line honed the freshly poured blocks, honed his own rods, etc.

About 10 years ago, Joe built himself a car just to have fun with, he threw out his restoration guide book and just started building what he wanted and felt like building. This is what he ended up with:

  2. Now before you start criticizing what Mr. Robinson has build, Who ever saw a Baby Blue restored Model T? This car was painstakingly restored to be a fun Hot Rod. Joe built up himself a nice little cruiser. I asked his son, how fast have you had this thing going? His answer " We have had it up to about 75 ". Now I gave him some of the craziest looks ever, NO WAY would that thing go 75.

Well this is when he opened the hood to expose his fathers handy work.

  3. Even though this car has a completely stock looking appearance (color aside), it is by no means your normal Model T. The Frontenac equipped motor runs very well. It sports a new updated ignition, small denzo alternator, etc. For transmission it has a HI/Low transmission in addition to a Ruxtal 2 speed rear axle. It still runs around on mechanical brakes that have been updated with Rocky Mountain Brakes on all 4 corners.

  4. Mr, Robinson got to enjoy his car for a few years and now in his wake, we are still enjoying it also. Sadly, the car is looking for new owners as the car is part of the family estate that the lawyers are settling. All good things come to an end, hopefully the car will find a new appreciating owners that is not afraid to jump in her and open it the throttle as Mr. Robinson built it to do.

I sure wouldn't mind being the new caretaker of that T, my 1912 Touring wouldn't mind a satable mate either.
