Well this weekend was relatively successful. Every evening for the last two weeks we have been helping the in law's remodel their house and clean the their property up in prep for selling so they can move and down size a little bit. So there, that's where I have been!!!!

I did get the alternator project done, installed. With a stock 36" belt dia. X 1" wide. It's still not wired in yet, it clears all hoses and pipes.

Weather was nice so before I tore the fenders off we drove the Special up and down the street several times in the morning giving rides to several of the fellas that were out working on their projects.

I spent the last part of Saturday painting a friends Marvel acton comic character costume Hot Pink base coat used Hot Pink pearl and Purple metal flake. His character is Galactica and built all the hard parts I painted out of fiber glass and has worked on it for several months. I thought it was interesting project that I might like to help with. It' been a real learning experience.

Sunday was more working at the in laws again, so I didn't get a chance to do anything.

I had called into work on Monday and found out that my paving job I was going to drive for got cancelled. So.... I got a chance to play on the car a little bit. I had Carston with me, so I gave Carston a job.... When I loosened the bolts which hold the fenders to the car he got to loosen the and take off the nuts and washers. We worked together and got the fenders off and guess where? Actually I got them in the paint booth and put DP 50 on them!!! We started the paint process finally!!! Check the pictures out....

Chris, Nothing like you and your son working on the Speedster together. Wish my dad would have done some things like that with me. When I was a teenager (about '64) I tried to get my dad interested in a 46-48 Ford coupe with vertical valve Buick mill adapted tot he Ford trans. Really wanted to do that coupe but no interest/support from my dad. Guy only wanted $150 for the car . . . .

    Hi Dave,

I like having Carston help me. He's pretty good at removing nuts, better at losing the parts in the shop, though!!!! Right now he and I wrestling over who gets my chair in the living room!!!!! I think he's winning!!

We took the spare tire carrier off the Special today. Tomorrow I'll take the headlight mounts of and put everything in the blast cabinet and spend the evening massaging everything for paint.

    Hi Dave,

Well CMC Rod Shop was busy this afternoon. I finished painting that costume I was doing for a customer, yesterday. So no one was there and the family and I decided to start filling fenders with a skim coat of Rage filler. In preparation for the first coat of filler primer.

Oh.....A priming we will go, a priming we will go...

    Dave,

Chris made some great progress this weekend, getting most of the front end brackets (fender irons, headlight forks, etc) re-primed and back in a fresh coat of green.

He also got the radiator shell bead blasted and in primer, ready for body work...but the big mile stone was getting the fenders in their second coat of primer! :D

I didn't get any photos of the latest paint activities (I will Wednesday night) But here are a few of Chris's excellent body work and paint prep skills...

Clayton and Chris, Those fenders are just looking super nice. Most people would never know that the fenders are not metal. Keep up the great work.

Chris, Not a real green fan. I do believe that it is the perfect choice for your speedster though. What color will you use for pinstripe high lights ? I know motor is blue, but not for the body ?

    Dave

  24. Wow, I like that colour, and I'm not usually a fan of green either.

Bright Orange for the striping...same as the wheels, with a darker Army green to simulate and punctuate the beading on the seats, gas tank and fenders...

    :D

BTW, front fenders are D-O-N-E and ready for paint!...rears are next. No pictures yet, will get some Wednesday.

it is actually 1968 GM (Pontiac) "Verdoro Green" :D

It is the metallic interpretation of the 70s "fridge green" like color that Bill chose for the 1913 White. Bill had seen the 1911 Pope-Hartford touring in the Harrah collection while he was working for him and loved the color combo...the green with the army green trim and the orange pin striping.

That car is still in the Harrah collection in Reno and I got the chance to see it last year....I never thought that color combo would work until I sough it in person...

...they REALLY work great together...and on an early car like that.

That is why we chose those colors :)

In an interesting coincidence, that color is the reason my '68 Camaro is green. I saw it on a number of Firebirds, and it seemed like a refreshing change (in 2000) from the standard red/orange/white Camaros I saw everywhere. And it went well with my Ivy Gold interior.

Sand, Sand, Sand,Sand, 2 front fenders I sanded with 400, tops and aprons. 1 rear I haven't even touched the other one is sanded top and apron with 180. Still have a long ways to go. I think I'll shoot a light coat of primer on them nad finish blocking them all over with 320 or 400. Then Color!
