*MrModelT Seeks the H.A.M.B.'s great wisdom on his '26 T Roadster*

Hello Fellow H.A.M.B.ers!

While in the midst of fighting the "withdrawals" of being "roadster-less", I have been playing around with a few ideas about the next few things on my "TO DO" list for the car when it returns from it's California vacation in the middle of next month (not all at once though....want to put some "catch up miles on it first ) such as completing the interior, period "juice brakes" upgrade (you all should enjoy the updates on that one ) and a motor refresh and OHV upgrade. Another major, high profile and well debated item on the list is a paint job....a REAL paint job. The paint job it self is not the main point of this, but a potential COLOR CHANGE is however.

I have toyed with the idea of changing the color to something other than black for well over a year, but just never made good on it and now that everyone loves the car exactly as it is makes the choice even harder.

It would be, of course, a very period color choice and would stay a dark color (not to take away from the current look and feel) and I have a few possible color choices chosen:

British Racing Green (a very dark and cl***ic green)

Andalucite Blue (a very, VERY dark blue that is almost black in appearance..until the sun hits it)

Mariner Blue (the lightest of color choices. A dark Navy Blue)

...but I have decided to weigh in YOUR opinions into my final decision.

What do you think? I would love to know!

 

It's hard to beat the current version, but my preference would be the Andalucite blue. My .02$

I saw your car on Sunday and I found myself coming back to it over and over again, I think its perfect the way it is.

 

The only color that car should ever be is black....Let's but it this way....would you change Darth Vader to blue or green? No you wouldn't, he would no longer be wicked and evil. He would **** and the other kids would make fun of him....That car deserves to be wicked and evil.

I'm all for an interior and OHV. Even repainting it BLACK. But I would never change the color.

even though I am building an A. Your car is a huge inspiration.

I had always intended to give her a better paint job, but the more places I take it and compliments I get on it...I gets harder and harder to commit to painting it in favor of keeping it just the way it is.

 

Clayton, What are you trying to do! Start an international incident on the HAMB!!! After looking at all the colors my favorite is still the BCS Green we found. Another alternative would Andulucite PINK!

Thank you kindly Hitchhiker, That is a heck of a compliment and a very valid point....I point that I expect to see on this thread quite a bit ...and one that I have a hard time getting away from myself: can I bring myself to change it? Do I have the heart too?

I must say, the "Darth Vader" comment really made me laugh and ask "did he just put my roadster on the same level as Darth Vader?"....too cool!

 

Black or burn it. That car is meant to be black. There has been only a few cars that rival your roadster for the most evil looking mother ****er award. Leave it!!!

Any color you like as long as it's black.

 

i think you have done the "T" correctly . very nice . but , as all car peeps , its just not quit ever done ! if my car was done , then what do i do all day ?? back to your car . there are some black/blue colors out there , but that wouldnt give you much of a change . i would how ever look long & hard b 4 i touched your car . but hot rod correct is in the eye of the owner . good luck & post pix if you paint .......... steve

in my opinion-black is the perfect color for that car. i don't know that it could look any better in a different color. i could see if you wanted to give it a higher quality paint job, but i know that you drive the car a lot-so how nice you want to make it i don't know.
it's such a nice car as is. i'm all for upgrading the motor, interior, etc. and little things here and there, but if it were my car i would have trouble going to crazy with the changes.
just my opinion though. no matter what, it's going to be a killer car.

If it were mine, I'd stay with black. If I had to change it, I'd go to the darkest available green.

I could be biased -- my last five cars have been black or green.

I actually have color samples from HIS car..so it will be EXACT.

 

...maybe just a little You guys sure aren't makin' this easy that is for sure! It is great seeing everybody's opinions.

 

That is actually very close, but visualize it way darker.

 

Leave it black and sort out the interior first.
Do you have a plan for the interior that you care to share?

 

Your "T" is the ONLY "T" in my book. There are many others but your's, my friend, is what all "T"s strive to be.

If you change the color, myself and JJ will be making a special trip to visit you in Portland and I don't think you would want that.

Hands down, your "T" is my all time favorite HAMB car.

I'm another one that will say "let it be". You are extremely creative and talented for your age (can't BELIEVE I'm watching myself type that), and those qualities will have you building and modifying for years to come, but at some point the project goes from a few neat/purposeful/well-thought-out changes to "too much"- just don't want you to step back from one day and think "Oh NO!!!"

Well the Mona Lisa has some cracks in it and you don't see anybody repainting that! I'd work on just the items that will make it safer, quicker and more enjoyable to drive and leave it at that. Oh, and the oil leaks...hehe.

My copper is on the black and I'd really have to justify touching the body at all. Don't want to take the soul out of it. Either that or you can go the whole Jim Street/Kookie car make over.

 

That car is by far my favorite model T i have ever laid eyes on. You really put something together that grabs the soul and says ****ing A! Awesome car and I also vote that it stays black. It deserves it.

I of course value ever opinion given here and I am not one to simply make changes for the sake of "making changes" or "shaking it up". I had always intended to re-paint the car with a higher quality paint job (with all the same patina attributes we all know and love ) because the current "$25 shake-n-shoot special" was only intended as a temp job to simply make it visually acceptable for the early shows I took it to. The color change was simply a "what if I..." that popped into mind while pondering the new paint job. I agree, there is a point were it becomes "too much".
