Killer thread! Good luck... a trans should be easy, they are all over, I have a few here. Did you take any pics they day you saw the patterns?
That was a few years ago, but I believe I did....just can't find 'em. I can't imagine that they got deleted or lost.......or that I didn't actually take any. I will have to dig and see if I can find them.
What a handsome car. I can see where you got your good sense of aesthetics. I'm personally not a huge fan of the dipped doors, but those are more subtle than most I've seen from that era. Stance and the rest are dead on. Interestingly, my wife's grandfather (an old circle-track racer), is always talking about the four-carburetor flathead intake he once had. He says he's never seen another. The only one I knew of previously was the one on the Fred Steele car. Cool project. -Dave
Should be a fun build, but it's going a bit slow right now with finishing the T and my '65 Falcon....but I am still making progress
Clayton; This is just too cool for words. I can see that you are going to force me to come back down to Portland for a visit! I can't see what heads were on your Grandpa's engine, but I have a set of Sharp heads (originals) if you want them. Let me know and keep up the good work! -Fred
Here is a question for all you flathead nuts: I picked up this transmission at the Portland swap meet for the project, but I am having a hard time identifying it. The 48-7006 case number denotes it as a 1935-36 case and the spur-cut 1st and reverse gears narrow it down to being a '35 box...but the shifter housing is very different from any other I have seen on a ford box. I know what the early and later style housings look like, but this is neither.....can you guys I.D. it?
Quick update: A very dear friend for B.C. came down to visit at the beginning of the month and brought me a present: A pair of original Sharp aluminum heads for a '49-'53 8BA! No pictures yet...but soon! Thanks again Fred!!!
Clayton=Ruler. Damn dude, I don't know how I've missed this thread this whole time, but I'm super pumped to see this car. Too cool man.
Thanks Shooter! I'm stoked about getting this project going, but it will be awhile unfortunately. I still have a few things left to complete on the T before the big Bonneville trip next year and then my '65 Falcon needs to be finished...she was in line well before the A-V8 ..That doesn't mean I can't collect parts for the A. Have the Flathead, trans, rear axle, frame, intake, steering wheel and a few other hard to find odds-n-ends....just gotta find a '29 roadster body that doesn't cost a first born child!
