Technical MSD 6 AL woth to repair

After 15 yeas in rhe shelf I get the dust off an 6AL ignition box and use it for a Flathead with a modified Chevy MSD distributor.
It runs fine for 30 minutes then I shut off and when I try to restart no ignition.
I check everything and the BOX is defect. With other box it runs fine again.
Now I'm thinking send to US for repair is much to expensive. I there some that I can try?
Maybe allways the same part fried?
Is there some alternative to use as coil driver an H.E.I. module for example?

As I recall I think the electronics in the box is relatively simple, anyone repairing electronics on component level should have a good chance finding the problem. I'd take a look at capacitors first, some react badly to aging and some types don't handle long periods on the shelf well.

 

I’ve sent 2 back to MSD for repair. It was $75.00 ten years ago and there still working great. And they were $300 then to replace. Guess it’s the shipping issue for you.
In rereading your post you mentioned it quit after 30 minutes. This may be because of heat subtitle poor connection. They recommend wiring the positive and negative directly to the battery. I’ve seen people skip this part and have issues.

 

There are lots of ignition amplifiers that work with magnetic pickup distributors, and you generally can mix and match them. The HEI module is designed to be mounted inside a distributor, so might not be the best choice, but there are Ford and Mopar and many aftermarket amplifiers that should work. If you live outside the US, you might even find a "foreign" application that has one locally available. Visit your local parts store, ask what ignition amplifiers they have in stock.

 

MSD boxes are usually dead-nuts reliable, are you sure you don't have a counterfeit? MSD will repair theirs for a reasonable amount but did run into these fake copies on warranty returns for a while.

MSD has a maximum charge to fix anything wrong, and it used to be $85 the last time I sent one in. Minimum was $23. The last 6AL I sent in cost $23 and it came back with a new harness on it. I have always had good luck with MSD and repairs have been reasonable. Much cheaper than a new box!

 

The MSD Service sound great but the sipping is ca. $100 one way!!!!!!
As Ford amplifier ore Mopar ignition box is may be a good idee such is cheap to find.
I open the MSD box, and it should be possible to repair because no SMD parts in.
No part was black ore destroyed all look like new so maybe a transistor ore one of the IC get out of work
It is a big waste to get such box in the junk when there is a part defect that cost only a few cents and little time

 

That was I check first and then logical step by step but on the end it was the box.
I change for another and it runs fine again
