    So many people have been misled by the so called "Original Smithys" mufflers. They sure made them look like the Originals right down to the hammertone paint job and the embossed Smithys logo. Well, What they did NOT do was to duplicate the inner core and packing. I sold the original Smithys and still have some that I have kept over the years. The inner core was perforated (just a tube with holes every 1/2 inch or so). When they made the reproductions they simply used what was available which is a louvered inside tube!...That is why they do not sound like the "Real Deal"!. The louvered core traps most of the sound whereas the holes in the originals let the good sounds go through. I was upset when they came out with the reproductions and I saw that they were not a true Smithy. Well, like they say " You can't beat The Real Thing".

    I have about the same set up as you and am running Cherry Bombs. They are mellow until you run it hard. I am happy with them and the price is right.

    To be honest via YouTube porter has the best videos hands down, everyone else is posting cell phone video or the car is in an echoey garage. Based on that I wanted porters, based on my budget I went with choice #2 smithys.

    I wanted a good tone but not so loud, I'm not 18 anymore and I'd like to keep what's left of my hearing so I went with the longest ones they make at around 33-36 inches long.

    Sbc-> ram horns-> 2 inch pipe-> smithys-> 45 deg 2 inch exiting in front of rear tire.

    And I love it! So far all I've heard it idling and sorta high idle but once it's driving ill post a video with decent sound. It's actually a little louder than I expected which I'm fine with, and with a 2 inch pipe I figured I'd have more of a rap but I've gotten non so far messing with the throttle to hear them. Nice deep blub blub blub I'm stoked on them
