I’ve dropped the body onto my replacement frame and am starting to rebuild my 40 sedan. First issue is water line from hand to rad. Since I am running three carbs, I bought a passenger side offset bracket for the alternator. Now I see that the alternator sits too high and obstructs the route of the water hose. I’m stuck. I know someone figured this out before me. Any ideas?
With little to no information to go on, this is the best I can do. You can get radiator hose "necks" that are made in two pieces and the neck can swivel. Different angles are available also. There are a number of companies that manufacturer after market alternator brackets of every conceivable configuration. Google can be your friend. Start with Summit Racing.
I'll make a WAG that it's an 8BA with the alternator over the water neck at the front of the head. He needs to replace that with a 90 degree water neck and then put a couple of bends in the rad hose to go around the alternator.
Ah. He said replacement frame and alternator, so my guess would have been SBC. There is a tough to find thermostat housing that has a longer neck with a bend in it for aiming the hose over an offset generator. Maybe one of those could be found.
This is hard to see but there is room for a water neck in there. I used a skinny, cast t-stat (water outlet) and lifted the gen mount slightly to clear it. This is on my roadster, so the gen hangs out of the engine bay (I don't run hood sides). In a '40, there is acres more room.
Is this the sort of thing you mean? Nick B in the UK did this on his '40 coupe to get round the issue you describe,
Sorry for confusion. I****umed that you would know it’s a flathead. My mistake. Can’t find an offset bracket for a 59ab. Do you think an 8ba bracket could be modified to fit?
