Who was making multi carb setups prior to 1945 for the Ford flathead?

Tommy Thickstun in 1930, Vic Edelbrock, Jack Henry, Jim Harrell was right around there although he may have been 1946. Robert Paxton had a dual carb stacked slingshot type of deal that sat on a McCulloch supercharger. Mal Ord made a log style dual carb for lakes use. Weiand was doin their thing... Hilborn made some. I'm sure I am missing a ton

Hexagon Tool & Die was a shop that did work for Ford and for the 1935 Miller/Ford Indy cars they produced two carb aluminum manifolds. The original design by Harry Miller was an open plenum, four carb manifold but those suffered from a reversion problem. I don’t know who designed the Hexagon but it was a conventional 180* design with the carbs mounted reversed on the manifold.
Hexagon was later able to market them and because the carbs were backwards they gave room for the generator.

There are pre-war Edmunds intakes for flatheads out there as well. Also, Shanafelt manifolds that came out of Portland.

The Ford flathead made it's first appearance in 1932, so how is it possible that Tommy Thickstun had speed equipment available for the flathead in 1930?

If we are talking pre-war ('32-late 30's/very early '40's) to '45 (WWII ended in 09/02/45), there were a few. Early on, guys like Davies, Alexander, Ord, Roof, Jack Henry, Eddie Meyers, Eddie Edmonds (early water heated intake), Hexagon Tool (as someone mentioned, for the '35 Miller front wheel drive Indy cars) made V8 2X2 intake manifolds. The closer you got to the start of WWII, more and better stuff became available like the Wieand high rise, Edlebrock Slingshot, first version Thickstun, Burns intake with detachable risers.

I'm certain I'm missing some intakes, but these were some of pre-war intakes made. A lot of the really early stuff was made in small amounts and used for their own and their buddy's racing exploits.

Tommy Thickstun never made any 4 Cylinder or 6 cylinder speed equipment in 1930 or ever for that matter. In high school in 1930 he did make one 2 carb intake for a Chrysler straight 8 and in the mid 1930's he made a 2 carb adaptors for the flathead Ford V8. His Thicksun tall intake introduced in 1939 ruled the dry lakes in the late 1930's and early 1940's, as most of the dry lakes racers were running this intake. I can read thankyou very much and it looks like I know a bit of history as well.

Well you've done a little research and changed your angle since I pointed out something obvious but hey whatever makes you feel better buddy. Thickstun made em pre 1945 as per the original post. He started in 1930 yes with something that wasnt flathead ford I'll concede that point. Regardless flathead ford refers to 5 or 6 different engines and my answer was still correct. In my opinion....I think you just wanted a gotcha moment on me and (forgot?) About 4 cylinders? You then got embarr***ed and tried to make it about something it wasnt to save face. Just how it appears from my armchair. Wish you the best, sorry for not responding kindly to your failed attempt at a gotcha. I generally give back what I get from folks to a degree

I think the OP meant the Ford Flathead V8 in his original post. No mention of 6 cyl. or Banger engines.

^^^^ It is pretty much [almost] understood that flathead ford refers to the 32-53 v8.

Think or not he said flathead ford and pre 1945. I responded to the question historically not based on personal ***umptions. I was just trying to be a nice guy and help the fella out. Next time ill just shut up and move on. Yall are the reason this site struggles and so many greats have bowed out. Ya start drama and bickering for absolutely no reason. Twenty 8 too, his little yellow car boyfriend. Idk why I try anymore honestly

Stu Hilborn was mentioned by @oliver westlund as producing a flathead Ford manifold but he never did. What he ran on his engine before he developed his first injection was a unique manifold designed and made by Eddie Miller. Miller’s design used three single barrel carbs and one two barrel carburetor.

According to the book I have here he collaborated on a quad carb intake with miller. That was the basis for mentioning him

Here is a pic. of my Alexander brochure from the 30’s which shows that the “Colonel” made more than just four banger speed parts.
Here’s his offering for V-8 flathead which sported double downdraft Winfield carbs. One of the single runners and carb is the same as the one for his Alexander Racing OHV banger conversion, that I have.

You took less than a day to hit the ol like ****on. Anywhere i go on here you are quick behind with either a negative comment or a like for the other guy big boy. Im not making smart ***ed comments, just speaking truths. I can back em up with a sad number of screen shots if you really want to deny it and play games. You are just one of those guys. You could scroll on but wherever you can you take a side against me, you dont let the opportunity p*** you by. Its really quite ridiculous and pathetic honestly. I love traditional hot rods. You love traditional hot rods. Why not just enjoy the hobby, appreciate that I enjoy the same hobby and let it go man. Take an opportunity to spread some good in the world, hell in our hobby on our forum! Im floored by how many want to bicker on here over nothing. A fella asked a question, I took a bit of my time of which I have extremely little and tried to help him out and get a bunch of grief for it. I get it, guys flick ****, on my build thread, jn response to my questions, sure thing, whatever. However when I am trying to help a guy out I cant fathom why anyone would want to take time to try and bicker over minutiae. We want more activity on here and a growing hobby, not a dying one

Certainly not the oldest, but one of the more rare setups I HAD in the middle of my flathead collecting days. Have 60 years experience with flatheads and everything is NOW for sale. Hey tub, really stop and think about how petty, small and sad what you just said is. Youre a weird cat....you realize I would never even get notified of that right? So you dislike someone you dont even know soooo much that you go through all of that for? Self gratification? Get a life man

It's a good thing you weren't around in the early days of the H.A.M.B.

    You would have been excoriated.
