Technical Muncie 318 worm gear

Well muscled this ****er off a bit too much. Any idea where I can find a replacement? Or repair?

Speedometer drive gear ...

 

If you didn't crack it, you can probably clean it up with a saw sharpening file. (Not chain saw.)

 

The one I have is still on the main shaft

It’s yours if it survives removal
Wonder if the Muncie 4 speed ones are the same
Those are EZ to find

Don’t know if it’s any help, there’s two Muncie 4 speed drive gears depending on axle ratio.

 

Before Anthony goes through the work to get his gear off the shaft.
Give me the tooth count and id and I will check my stock of gears Monday when back in the shop. I believe they are the same as early Muncie 4 speed and Borg Warner.

Use a press and press it off the shaft.

 

warm it some!

 

As long as it's not cracked, I'd be going to work on those damaged areas with my small needle files and clean it up. The driven gear normally doesn't engage that close to the edges of the worm anyway.

 

Use a knife file and fix it.

 

I with these guys. Some care and patience will keep that useable.

 

Filed it and it looks new…ish.
