Technical Muncie 318 worm gear

    Maxwise

    Well muscled this ****er off a bit too much. Any idea where I can find a replacement? Or repair?

    1955 Chevy 2nd Series
    Muncie 318 transmission

    If you didn't crack it, you can probably clean it up with a saw sharpening file. (Not chain saw.)

    Wonder if the Muncie 4 speed ones are the same
    Those are EZ to find
    Any hamb folks know?

    Don’t know if it’s any help, there’s two Muncie 4 speed drive gears depending on axle ratio.

    Before Anthony goes through the work to get his gear off the shaft.
    Give me the tooth count and id and I will check my stock of gears Monday when back in the shop. I believe they are the same as early Muncie 4 speed and Borg Warner.
    Let me know.

    Use a press and press it off the shaft.

    As long as it's not cracked, I'd be going to work on those damaged areas with my small needle files and clean it up. The driven gear normally doesn't engage that close to the edges of the worm anyway.
