I am looking to buy a muncie 4 speed for my hot rod probably running aroung 450 horsepower and I am wondering which munice would be the best for me? There seems to be a wide and a narrow ratio trans and Im not really sure what the difference is. I would ***ume the gear ratios are spread farther apart which seems like it would be ok on a car with higher torque to turn hgears spread apart. If anyone knows if thats the case or if not what the difference is please let me know.

Yeah, the close ratio has a 2.2 low gear, wide ratio is about 2.5. Close ratio keeps the rpm up higher when you shift, but you get less get up and go off the line. For street driving the wide ratio is a bit easier to deal with. For drag racing you want the close ratio, but you also want steep rearend gears.

  3. I ran both a close and a wide ratio T10 (at different times:)) in a tubbed Nova I used to own and found the close ratio to be more fun ... keeps the rpms closer together.

It depends on your rearend ratio...if you have lets say a 3.55 or lower gear rearend (higher number numerically like 3.70 or 4.11) you can use an M-21 close ratio...if you use a M-20 wide ratio trans with a lower gear rearend you will basically wind out first gear faster. The gear ratios on a M-21 are closer together because they came in lower geared cars to begin with. The lower rearend geared cars could use the M-21 because 1st gear is taller so that it would be closer in spacing to 2nd gear. If you put a M-21 in a car with tall rearend gears it will be hard to get the car off the line because you lost some mechanical advantage there...Hopefully that makes sense.
