Technical Muncie Help Needed.

  1. I wouldn’t think so,,,,,,a 307 bearing is supposed to be a 307,,,,,same ,,same .

I do remember many years ago that the 308 bearings got thick for a while .
Even the ones you bought from Mopar were like that .
Finally after a while,,,they went back to normal .
Could very well be a production problem,,,,,,it wouldn’t surprise me a bit .

The larger bearing I originally had on it had to have been put on there over 10 years ago. I bought the transmission nearly 7 years ago and the person I bought it from had it a while before that.

Nope, there are different width bearings in some sizes like the 307 for different applications! This just happened to be one of those cases and they do use a different number to denote that it is different.

Like I said earlier I believe there is a updated bearing retainer for that thicker bearing. I had to buy one 20 years ago for my m20. At the same time I also went to the steel mid plate. My aluminum one was screwed up. You may want to ask about it before you get to upset over it.

I'm not really upset, I'd just like to know what is what. I saw where someone had made a retainer to allow him to use the thicker bearing but if I call somewhere to order parts and I tell them what I have and they are supposedly experts I would expect the right part or at least they would have some clue as to why it's not fitting.

All said and done though now it shifts like through butter.

  6. Bottom line is, it was a success and we all learned something.
