I'm looking at an m-20 (I believe) Muncie and I was just wondering about the tailshaft. The obvious answer between short and long is the size but is there any more to it than that? Is it just a personal preference depending on the size of the car and length of the driveshaft?I plan on running it behind a 364 nailhead in a 31 a coupe. Any suggestions would help. Thanks everyone.

Which side the speedo cable goes in is another difference. Up until 65 the exited the drivers side. After 65 they came out the passenger side.

Does that have anything to do with the tail shaft? If you mix a post 65 tail shaft with a pre 65 tranny will there be problems

I changed the tail shaft on a 67 case and didn't run into any problems. Now that I think of it maybe it was 66 when they changed sides.

which ones are the short ones the early or the late?

I need a wide ratio, code M20, 2 rings on input shaft, I think for a future project and need it to be as short as possible to allow me space for a driveshaft.
