im flying out tonight 9-8-13 to San Diego for my honey moon for 2 weeks. we are flying home from San Francisco. my question is what are some hidden treasures there or local hot rod nights?
Stop in Duarte and talk to Rick Barakat. He knows everyone. PM me for a phone number. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=585483&highlight=eastwood+barakat
If you are in San Diego take her out to Coronado to the shops and drive through the neighborhoods on the island and let her look at the houses there. She will be telling her friends about it for months. Figure on planning on watching a few sunsets along the coast as you drive up the coast too. After all it is your honeymoon and not a banzi me an my buddies are going to hit 20 shops and four car shows in ten days thing. On the car stuff side, I'd stop by a few of the shops that are mentioned on here and buy a T shirt in person.
I think they are still doing the wedsday nite car meet in El Cajon ... maybe someone can chime in ... I'll be down there the end of the month.
Tell us a little more about your wife What are her interests? This will help keep the marriage going. Usually I would second the Yosemite suggestion but at this time there is probably a lot of smoke from a major fire and the waterfalls are always down this late in the year. Charlie Stephens
Did the trip this summer and thanks to many Hamb members had the trip of a lifetime. Here is a list of my favorites: Santa Monica Pier Hearst castle Peterson Museum (vault tour included) - following the Peterson went to The Grove for lunch and then walked the LeBrea tar pits NHRA museum and so cal speed shop Highway 1 sea lions beach north of San Simeon Pebble beach 17 mile loop NAPA valley wineries Moon Speed Shop Twin peaks overlook in San Francisco Hop on Hop off bus tour in San Francisco
shes a earthy heath nut, organic food, green living, nature, early 1900s buildings and antique stuff. pre 64 cars and local car shows/night hangouts of course, dive bars
In SoCal, visit the L.A County Fair in Pomona which is also home to the NHRA museum (the fair continues until Sept 29. Dark Mons and Tues). But if you want to see true California, visit the Central Coast.Check out Solvang. Check out Avila Valley Barn (here's a link) http://avilavalleybarn.com/ then take Avila Drive down to Avila Beach. Then hang around nearby San Luis Obispo. Plenty of pubs in old downtown and you can visit the Mission. Other place to check out is Morro Bay. Plenty of Sea Food restaurants with a beautiful view of the bay and Morro Rock (you can drive onto Morro Rock). Also check out Hearst Castle in San Simeon and the nearby town of Cambria which kind of a artistic town. All of these places are off the 101 or Highway 1. There are also lots of Vineyards in these area and especially Paso Robles.
Honeymoon hot rod nights... sounds like you married a good one. This sounds great. Good call on Twin Peaks.
I had a pal that grew up on that hill up quintara .... hella view, the house always in a clint eastwood movie background .... but didn't the OP say So Cal ... flying into San Diego? 600 miles difference.
When you get to Nor Cal come to the Tuesday hot rod lunch at Fred Stoke's place, Old Redwood Hwy just north of Santa Rosa, $6 for good food and good company, then go to Vern Tardel's down the road about 2 miles from Fred's. A great guy and a shop with more old Ford stuff than you have ever seen. All in and around the Santa Rosa area. Then to keep the wife happy go to Healdsburg for wine tasting and finish off with the best Italian food in the state at Cattelis in Geyserville. Rex
Here's the dope on the car-related stuff in San Diego. http://www.goodoleboyssandiego.com/events.htm PM me if you want a tour guide. If I were you, I'd take her out to the Point Loma Lighthouse and Cabrillo Monument, from what you decribed, I think you both might enjoy ...
Peterson museum and the museums right across the street . I thnk it was the paige museum. also the tar pits are neat to look at
Cool we might be able to make that we are heading that way tonight. Haha yes good bye in and out burger!
