Found me a front end, wan't to convert rotors to 5 lug. What is the common and correct thing to do? Will the stock calipers work with the 5 lug rotors? Will I need to add a booster to make those calipers funktion?
Search <script type="text/javascript"> vbmenu_register("navbar_search"); </script> Your key to enlightenment is here.
Click "Search" at the top of the screen (in the gray bar), then click "Advanced Search" and then look for all threads with "Mustang" in the****le. There is a vast wealth of info already here on the HAMB, much of it contributed by ELpolacko who is a genuine expert on suspension.
why does everyone insist on referring to these front ends as Mustang 2 when in fact the Pinto had them first i guess mustang sounds better than pinto
Now about that intro. Yep, put ELpolacko in a search and you will find the info you need. Lots of vendors still sell the direct bolt on MII or Pinto 5 lug rotors. Also there are kits to swap the bigger rotors on but you will find that info in the search. We are not being total smart****es, a HAMB search usually brings up way more info on any one subject than one guy can digest. And this MII thing has been hashed around tons of times. So we make you work a bit. <input id="gwProxy" type="hidden"><!--Session data--><input onclick="jsCall();" id="jsProxy" type="hidden">
THIS has been covered, too, but since you asked: they are essentially the same but NOT identical. Pintos never had power steering as far as I know, and the Pinto cross member is slightly more narrow from what I gather. And of course it sounds a lot more cool to tell someone your car has a Mustang suspension than a Pinto suspension.
Just quick info After 1974 the two are identical. There is no difference in widths or components. The only difference I can think of is that Mustang11 originally was available with a v8, so there are heavier springs available under Mustang11 part numbers. I have personally seen two types of strut arms, very subtly different but interchangable. I don't know if that was Pinto vs. Mustang11, or running change.
Same reason we don't call first gen Mustangs Falcons. The Falcons were first, the Mustang body could be considered a trim package.
