My lady has a 46 chev with a mustang 2 clip with rack and pinion! My question is that when the car wheel is turned all the way to the left and when you start turning towards the right there is a clunk noise!?!?? Any ideas/thaughts??

The two big bolts the hold the rack on the crossmember could be loose or the bushings could be worn. They are supposed to be very tight and you shouldn't be able to move it at all by hand.
The steering column mounts could be loose, or the u-joints on the steering shaft could be worn and allowing the shaft to clunk against the frame.
Tie rods or ball joints or control arm bushings could be loose or worn.
Wheel bearings could be a bit loose.
Brake caliper could be loose. (Mine was clunking on bumps, though, not when turning the wheel.)
You'll just have to jack it up and give everything a good lookover to figure out what's actually making the clunk noise, and then figure out why.
I'm guessing it's the rack moving, though. Those bolts are supposed to be at something like 90 ft.lbs., and if it's an aftermarket crossmember they often have oversize holes that would allow it all to shift.
